Android Central Question

Recently I was on a trip in Las Vegas. Just after getting home, I was getting receipts from California for Uber rides on my account. Kind of tough since I was in Ontario Canada at the time. No one has my Uber account information but me. SO..... either Uber was hacked and thats how they got it OR my phone was hacked. I know that apps can be set to do things on a trigger from a text ( you can have the camera take a picture of the person using your phone if you lost it, email it to you with a map of where they are if you have the right app installed ). I have no sketchy apps and they are all from the play store. I use WIFI at hotels as well. Is there any chance that in some way, someone has hacked my phone to get my Uber account and use it?? They were also trying to attack my person email as well. Likely to change the Uber password to lock me out and not see the charges. What are everyone's thoughts here on .... is this possible what I described above with regard to me being hacked? How can I make things a little safer on my phone so I don't get hacked? Anyone else had a similar situation and what did you do..... for right now, I have added google authenticate to my Uber account for a second step verification.

First off, I would no longer use hotel or any free WiFi. I can very easily change my phone's wifi hotspot name to Hilton or Starbucks. If I had the know how, I'm sure I could then watch everything that people do on their phones if they're connected to my phone.
Second, I'd log into all of my accounts on a PC and change all of my passwords. While there, set up two factor authentication for the accounts that allow it.

Google Authenticate is a good idea. It's old tech (my wife used to use something similar on World of Warcraft), but everyone gets a random number every minute, so no one can hack into it, unless they hack directly into your phone. (Even someone doing as Scienceguy was talking about, setting up a fake hotspot, so they could capture what you were sending to what you thought was Uber, would only get the random number that was in effect at the time you used it. A minute later, it's useless to them.)

Google authenticator is no longer an option once hacker manages to group text himself Google codes. Or is remotely watching the codes you entered. I have countless screenshots of dual/group text. And a long list of pw being changed the moment I try to secure my accounts. Also have numerous devices logging into my Google/ Samsung accounts. The recent android update allowed remote hackers to have access to all android phones. Patch doesn't help once hacker has control.

I do not believe any update led to your hack.
If this actually happened, I believe you downloaded something that allowed entry.

Why haven't you gone back to your thread, to answer questions of those trying to help you?

Your posts and actions lead folks to believe that your story is bogus.
