I was on an open network when this mysteriously appeared on my phone. Now Playstore won't download anything on lte presumably until I download and install this whatever it is.

No recent updates. Nothing out of the ordinary . No new apps. Playstore scan is turned on. Auto updates turned off.

The question isn't how do I get rid of this. The question is is this legit? If so I will turn on wifi to download it.

Googling it shows the verbage is accurate. Your concern about connecting to an open network just before it appeared is understandable. I have not seen it before, and though the name of the file is a known Google file name, it could have been copied to hide malware. I have no definite answer for this. Someone else will hopefully chime in. Good luck.

I got it earlier and barely noticed the notification. It finished downloading or whatever just as I swiped the notification bar down, vanishing before I could confirm or reject it. Google will do that on you, forcing downloads of their apps.

Btw, I was on my secured home network when it happened.

For the time being, yes. Not like I have much choice at this point. Lol.

If something bad about this is discovered, I'll reconsider my opinion.

I did find this, which at the bottom of the thread they claimed to get a reply from Google that it's part of Play Protect and happens when a device gets a new OTA update. I have an OTA update ready, but haven't installed it. In either case, anything I'm finding even remotely related to this download is pointing to being part of Play Protect.

IDK about your's but mine act as a virus. Each time I click on it, it opens up one of the apps that i have already installed randomly on Google play and shows downloading... The notification's download indicator shows progress and start filling out but the app page on Google play stuck at downloading... state and never complete, then if i cancel the download I can see that there is no update released for that app at all!. Then again the notification appears and when I click on it, it again opens another random app and this process goes on and on until I let it updated its unknown file and disappear for a day or to.

Of course it is. At least the one I have.
