s9 create contact from text

I have a S9 Plus, model SM-G965U with version 8.0.0 Android OS using Samsung Messages app version 5.0.40.16.
When I receive a new text from a person that is not on my contact list, there isn't anyway to easily create a new contact. opening the message and pressing the menu does not offer to 'add new contact' or 'create new contact'. Neither option is available when highlighting the message on the default message screen.

Welcome to Android Central! When you open the message, what happens if you tap specifically on the little person icon for the caller? Does it give you the Add Contact option then?
