We need a lot more information to really help you.
What phone do you have would be a good place to start.

However, I'll give it a go with some generic instructions.

    1. Make sure you have a sim card from a cellular service provider.
    2. Make sure that the sim card is properly inserted into your phone.
    3. Make sure you've gone into settings and turned on your data.
    4. You should have a stock messaging app on your phone. It might look like a cartoon "speak" bubble or something similar. It you don't see it, try scrolling through your app list. Be looking for "Messaging" or "Messages". Or something similar.
    5. Once you open that app, you should see a plus sign or new message button. Press whatever is there to start a new message.
    6. Insert the number that you wish to text. You might be able to type the name of a specific contact as well.
    7. Type your message.
    8. Click "Send" or the arrow-like icon to send your message.
