Cannot load contacts from MTO E5 Play onto Ford SYNC

[Android Central Question]

I have a 2016 Ford with the old crappy MS based SYNC (not SYNC3 with the big screen) .
When I tried to load the contacts from my new MOTO E5 Play SYNC says

SYNC cannot access contacts , Grant access on device and retry

I have tried everything on the phone I can find but no joy . The contacts loaded fine from my old LG Cosmos

Any ideas ?

Welcome to Android Central! On the phone, go to Settings>Bluetooth, tap the gear icon next to the car stereo entry, and then make sure the Contact Sharing toggle is turned on.
