Android Central Question

I have been used to plugging my Huawei Lite 20 via a USB cable now to my PC to download photos. Today, despite not selecting the HiSuite app, Windows Explorer shows my phone as a CD drive with the HiSuite downloader as the only active option.
No longer can I see the folder including the camera files. I don't want to have to install HiSuite. How do I get back to my phone being an accessible device?

Welcome to Android Central! On the phone, swipe down the notification panel, and tap the USB icon. Make sure MTP (or File Transfer) is selected (rather than Charge Only).

Yes, I did that - it's File Transfer. It worked for several months. So something, probably on the phone has changed.

It's called "an update". File Transfer is no longer sticky. It used to stay where you put it, now you have to go into Settings to choose the default - and even that sometimes doesn't stick.

Are you saying that even though it stays set to File Transfer, it doesn't show up correctly in Windows Explorer? If there's a prompt on the computer screen asking you if you want to autorun what's on the "CD ROM drive," make sure you decline that, and then see if the main part of the phone's storage shows up.
