Will "clear data" clear my text messages?

I've been having some issues with the messages app on my S8. Some advice I have read says to Clear Cache and Clear Data. Well I've cleared the cache and the issues persist.
My question is, if I hit "Clear Data", will that clear all my text messages? I don't really want to do that.

Back them up. There are a few good apps for sms backup in the playstore. Good luck

Actually, it shouldn't. But it wouldn't be bad to make a backup.
