Hello, as the title says, I've been having some storage problems with my phone, Samsung j7 pro with android 8.1.0. 16GB
I thought it's strange for my phone to almost have no apps and still giving me the full storage message, so I installed an external storage manager and it shows only 10GB as recognized space? Any clues to what's happening?

Welcome to Android Central! That's pretty standard. Out of the 16 GB of total internal storage the phone has, 3-4 GB are typically taken up by the OS, and an additional amount by preinstalled bloat (mostly the various Samsung apps). All phones do this -- even iPhones.

I have a similar problem too (slightly different). I have 32GB of storage on my S7 Edge and my system manager shows 10GB of apps and 3GB of documents/audio, yet it only says that I have 2GB of storage left. Even if I take into account 4GB of space taken up by the OS, that still doesn't even reach 20GB, let alone 32!

I do have 17GB of photos/videos, but that is stored on my micro sd card.

Help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Install Terminal Emulator for Android. Run it. Type

df

and Enter. (If you turn the phone to landscape, it's easier to read.) Look for data or emulated at the end of a line. The first number is the number of 1k blocks of storage you have. Storage is partitioned, like a hard drive, but the only one you have access to is that last one. The rest are used for other things like, but not limited to, the OS.
