Android Central Question

I always pay full price for my phone and never purchase inside a store. I am using ATT. A few years ago I purchased a Galaxy S8 and noticed I had unlimited tethering. Somehow ATT caught on and then I rooted the phone to continue unlimited tethering. About a week ago I ordered a Sony Xperia 1 from B&H. To activate the phone I swapped the some card from the S8 and activated the phone over the internet. Once again, the ATT app on my new phone shows a stagnant amount of tethering usage. I notice on the top left of the screen there is only a digital clock icon instead of an ATT icon. This is the second time this has happened. Has this happened to anyone else?

If you're rooting to conceal data usage, that would surely be a breach of contract by you. PM me if I'm wrong about that. Meantime I'll close the thread. It can easily be reopened if I am wrong.
