Android Central Question

Does turning off background data reduce phone's overall data consumption and also does it help with privacy?
Second question, encrypting my phone and sd card ,pros and cons please

Welcome to Android Central! Turning off background data just means that when an app isn't in the foreground (i.e., you're not actively using it on the screen), it won't connect to the web (or at least it'll be severe limited in its connection). This may save data, but it may also mean missing notifications for things like emails or other messages, depending on the app. I don't see how it'd help with privacy.

Which phone do you have? Most phones are encrypted by default. Encrypting your SD card is a reasonable security step, but it also means you can only use the card on that phone. You wouldn't be able to remove it and insert it into your computer, for example (in order to transfer files).
