Can a Bluetooth speaker be used for audio on a phone call

It seems that when i connect a Bluetooth speaker only to my Android Galaxy s9 it connects fine and audio plays fine. But I cannot get it to transfer the audio from a phone call to the speaker.

Only if the speaker has a microphone and supports the phone audio profile.

Welcome to Android Central! You can tell if it has the ability to make calls by going to Settings>Bluetooth, tapping the gear icon next to the speaker listing, and seeing if there's a Phone Audio option, as mentioned by hallux.
