Android Central Question

I have an S9+ phone and suddenly it has decided to take 6 hours to charge. When I check the settings I find fast charging greyed out.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you using the original charging cable and plug? Also, make sure the charging port is clear of any debris -- use a can of compressed air to blow it out, and a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the contacts.

Did you also try blowing out the charging port with a can of compressed air, and cleaning the contacts as I previously suggested?

Clear the cache partition and reboot.
Make sure that the fast charge option is toggled on in Settings afterwards.
Use a brick with a high enough output.
Good luck

Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions. I did not get around to blowing compressed air or using a q tip or trying safe mode. And I'm not sure what clear the cache partition means. Yes, you are right - fast charging is greyed out while it is actually on charge. After all that, I've just plugged the phone in today and fast charging is back! I haven't done anything different - same cable, same PowerPoint where my phone always gets charged. Why it decided to take nearly 6 hours to charge yesterday is a mystery

Great! So in the future, if this happens again, check to make sure the charging port doesn't have any debris in it. It's entirely possible there was some lint or other gunk in there that was interfering, and then finally cleared out on its own.
