won't turn on....

i was wondering if anyone knew why my transformer won't turn on unless i either plug it in or dock it?? if i plug it in it starts up by itself, if i dock it then i have to hit the power button and it is fine...but when separate i can sit and hold the power button all day and no go....any idea??? thanks....

no the power button works, just that the unit won't turn on without being docked or plugged in...
