Can a Chromebook access a PC computer on a home network with shared files?

Can a Chromebook connect to a PC to copy/retrieve files from, via USB/OTG?

Thanks

No to both questions, at least for now. If you want to access files on the PC, you could use a remote desktop app like Chrome Remote Desktop. Ideally, you'd upload the files on your PC to Google Drive, where they'd be easily accessible to your Chromebook. This can easily be done by installing the actual Google Drive program on your PC. This creates a separate folder in your hard drive directory that syncs with Google Drive in the cloud. You can then use Windows Explorer to move the files you want to sync with Google Drive into that folder. Any changes you make to those documents on the computer will be synced to Google Drive in the cloud.

So that basically works like Dropbox.

What are the PC reqs to be able to use the Crome remote desktop.

Well PS: ;-) just came home from Best Buy with an Acer cb3-111 c670 , price matched from Amazon for 164.89. It's charging now, so I'll be trying to get familiar with it, to teach my sweet, but technically challenged husband. Wish me luck. I'm sure to be here often with lots of questions.

TIA ;-)

Oh and what about accessing files on a network external hard drive?

I think the only requirements are to have Chrome installed on the computer (it's a Chrome extension), and have the computer connected to the web.

It's not simple, but here's a way: How to Access Shared Folders, Network Printers, and VPNs on a Chromebook

Ya seems google drive or dropbox the way to go. Shame chromeOS, Which is really linux based, just like android is, cant see smb shares, like android can

Ok not much activity here, but just in case anyone is interested or cares, you absolutely CAN mount a windows, networked file system on Drive, on a Chromebook.

I just did it, and now have full access to my pc :-D

LOVING ChromeOS and my Acer C670 Chromebook

Mount Windows file system on ChromeOS

Nice find! Has that been pretty smooth so far? Any hiccups?

Nope, pretty cool so far. Now I have full access across my network, and all cloud services.

A little clunky editing/saving word & excell files, but I getting there.
Wierd thing with screen shots tho. It doesn't capture what you see.

This pic was taken with the camera of my G note 2014 :-)
