Generally, the answers to any problems I have faced are a Google search away. This time, however, they are not. I am not an expert like many users here, but I am usually good enough.
So, a bit of background. My phone has a few issues that are making it rather unusable when it comes to wireless service and the battery is dying quickly. It is a Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX HD (XT926) running CyanogenMod version 12.1-20150811-NIGHTLY-xt926 which is Android version 5.1.1. The Baseband version is VANQUISH_BP_100731.020.64.21P
About two months ago, I had my SIM card out because I was taking my SD card out to make a quick transfer of some APK files. Later, I asked my girlfriend to bring me my phone and she accidentally tried to shove the SD card into the SIM card slot. This may have bent some of the prongs, because after that the phone did not sense my SIM card. I was able to straighten them using a hooked paperclip end and by putting a couple of pieces of tape on the back of my SIM card, the phone was able to read my SIM card again.
Two weeks ago, the phone quit reading my SIM card again. I got a new one. This did nothing. I updated from a rooted stock KK to Cyanogenmod and that did nothing. Taking the card out and putting it in does nothing. The pins seem to align with the card, as it scratches the card in the right places.
I thought it was purely a hardware problem, but I find that if I turn my phone off and back on, the SIM card is read and my phone connects to Verizon Wireless, my wireless provider. Unfortunately, after a few minutes, the phone ceases to read the card and instead, it says No SIM card—Emergency calls only. Sometimes, my carrier is shown as 000000 but it works off and on but does not show that it is connected to 3G or LTE. Sometimes, even without being turned off, it works anyway. Nevertheless, it always works when I reboot it.
Any ideas? I have spent countless hours trying to figure this out. I spent so much time trying to figure this out that my girlfriend and I had an argument and she broke up with me. Kidding (sort of)! I do not have a warranty and I do not have a phone contract. This thing can't be returned and I cannot easily afford a new one.
