I posted about it on his forum:
joeykrim-SDX - Permanent Root for Epic (and Verizon Fascinate) - Confirmed

Reposting here so I can get a faster response:

Is there a better rom to use than sprint's stock rom on epic 4g? cuz like, this morning at starbucks i get a popup saying 'system update available'. i tap install, the phone reboots, then i get a linux framebuffer console with a progress meter and it updates the phone's software.. then i get a blank screen - all four panel buttons are lit.. I had to take the battery out of the phone.. Now when I boot the phone there is no sprint cartoon splash.. my root 'su' was gone, i re-rooted the phone OK.. should i worry about this? the animation is gone. it was annoying anyways, id like to put my own custom animation if possible.

now i rebooted, and su still doesnt work, although i can root it initially using this exploit, once rebooted 'su' disappears. although it did prior to rebooting the phone. sprint is trying to lock me out?

how do i secure 'su' so it cant be deleted.

As I said before, the sprint splash cartoons after the samsung mobile splash are gone... i don't really mind that as i dont need to be constantly reminded of who my mobile carrier is (it says the logo on the phone already)... I care about keeping root on the go!

What do?

Ok, so check this out, i had a similar issue, yet i was able to use the .bat one click root to re-root my phone.

Go check out my thread in the roms and hacks section on how to restore, or you can check out the original over at XDA. Regardless use odin to restore. Then update. then re-root. you should be good to go. it works for me.

or you could stop installing updates and wait untill they are rooted, or people says its ok...

but beyond all of that, what i posted above is a fix for your problem. I installed the update after rooting just fine.

Also there is a one click "unroot" that goes along with the one click root.

if your really worried, you can use that, it does nothing to your phone except removes what the root put on.

Oneclick worked, problem solved!

The cartoons are gone forever though :/
the sound effects still play..
Maybe I could make my own custom boot logo?
