How do I delete some files from my phone so I can get new email?

My email option says not enough space in the device storage. Delete some files. How do I do that?

Usual culprits are photos, downloaded files and the like, there's an application that could do this for you called CCleaner. Might be worth installing that. Bear in mind, that if you haven't backed up your photos or downloads, you will lose these.

You may also have the option to increase your devices storage if it has expandable memory, however as you have not listed your phone, I can't comment.

The Photos app actually has the ability to help clean up your internal storage by deleting photos that are backed up to the cloud. Go to Photos, then go into the menu (the "hamburger menu" at the top left), select Settings then tap the Free up device storage option.
