New to Android, but.... (Video Call Question)

Hello Android Community -

First off, I am new to Android after many years with the iPhone community, and I am glad to be on the GOOD side.

I am trying to understand an interesting little thing that happened today while on a video call with my Fiancee.

Scenario:

We were both on the video call with each other and on wifi when she stated that she saw this message: "We tried, but we can't switch your video call to wifi at this time. Your video call is still running on mobile network. (Data usage applies)"

Does anyone know what this means? Is it possible that her wifi connection is being dropped and it is handing off to the data usage? It is interesting to note that I told her to check her wifi status and she showed connected to her SSID. I then logged on to her router and saw data was being transmitted to her cell over wifi.

Sorry for the ignorance, but, I appreciate any input.

Satisfied Android User,

Isaiah

Welcome to Android Central! How were you making the video call? Was it a carrier-based video call? Or were you using something like Hangouts or Skype?

I want to say it was carrier based video call. I do not believe it was the other two.

Would you suggest me doing hangouts instead?

If the video call is over the carrier's network, I'd give their support people a call. I'm pretty sure video calling on the carrier network requires a good LTE signal, so perhaps you were in an area of poor signal.

Hangouts video calls work pretty well, as long as your internet connection is good. It does require the other person to use Hangouts as well, though.

Cool, will do. LTE and WiFi works great, so I am not sure why its trying to switch over from WiFi to LTE.

Thanks for the info.
