Zte max blue missing lockscreen option under settings

All I can do is change the sleep settings. No option to keep the phone's screen from going black after 10 seconds or so

Welcome to Android Central! Are you trying to change the screen timeout for the lockscreen? That typically can't be adjusted -- the screen timeout is for when you're on the homescreen.
