A wave of questions regarding optimizing 1 of 1 has been hitting the forums lately.

Here is a list of possible culprits

    -Zedge
    -Truecaller
    -Caller ID
    -Facebook
    -Localcast for Chromecast
    -UC Browser

We can update the list as needed.

Solution edit: if you can force stop the app, clear data, uninstall, clear cached data, that should help.

Please add Google's "Photos" app to the list.

On a freshly-reset Marshmallow 6.0.1 Samsung S5 mini 'phone, without any optimisation during the boot, I clicked on Photos and it updated itself. I then restarted the 'phone several times and & got the optimisation each time. I cleared cache/data for Photos and uninstalled it as suggested above. Now no optimising on a restart. :-)

That's one gripe I have about my RCA Viking Pro tablet. On startup, it begins optimizing apps. By the time the apps actually start, 4 or 5 minutes may have passed. I'm never in a rush, so I just wait patiently. Another person may find this intolerable.

Are you routinely powering the device down? You could avoid this by just letting it sleep, and making sure you charge it up when the battery level gets to around 20-30%.

I don't have any of the above apps.

    I have tried:
    Clearing the cache,
Deleting all apps that I have installed.
Turning off battery optimization for every single app
Checking battery consumption right after rebooting. The only things shown are "tablet idle" and "screen".

Any other suggestions? Thanks for any help!

Some people are suggesting safe mode, but I can't figure out how to do that on my Android tablet. I have two physical buttons: power and reset. I do not have volume buttons. I tried holding down each button separately and both together. No safe mode.

The brand name is Pro12. Not RCA, Samsung or any other common brand.

Not familiar with that brand but restart your device and before screen turns on hold volume up and if that doesn't work volume up after restart , how usually u get in safe mode .

As I said, there is no volume up or down button. Screen touch only for volume.

Those instructions say to press the volume down button. I don't have volume buttons.

This is the problem with ultra-budget no-name devices -- generally poor quality control and zero support. If you're willing to try a factory reset, press the pinhole reset button on the back of the tablet (with a paper clip or safety pin). See your manual for more details: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/11...?page=8#manual

Sorry I'm not sure then, not much information on this device.

I agree with the ultra-low budget no name devices having very little support, but this seems to be an Android software problem across many devices, so I was hoping for more ideas. Sounds like the well is just plain dry. Hopefully there will be a fix from above. Thanks for trying!

It's a software problem that's related to older devices, I believe. Have you already tried a factory reset, as I suggested previously?

This happened after my last factory reset, not sure if it was immediately after or not. Doing a factory reset isn't fun, so I'm saving it as a last resort.

If you press and hold Power for about 1-2 seconds, do you get a Power menu? If so, long-press the Power Off option on the screen and see if it tells you it'll reboot into Safe Mode.

If that doesn't work, then do you have the physical keyboard for that device? If so, try connecting your tablet to your keyboard, then reboot the tablet. As soon as the screen comes on, press and hold the Volume Down key on the physical keyboard until the homescreen appears.

Hey, long pressing the Power Off option on the screen worked! It gave me the safe mode option. You are one smart Crow (referring to your avatar as a fellow MST3K fan). Unfortunately, safe mode still brought me into the dreaded "optimizing app 1 of 1". This seems to prove that it is not a third party app, downloaded app which is causing the problem for me, right? I was afraid I had missed one when I was clearing them out. Sounds like it's back to factory reset for me.

Also, plugging in the keyboard was a great idea. I had forgotten the tablet came with one. Not sure if that would get me into safe mode, since I don't know what the boot order would be in Android. Would the optional keyboard come too late in the process? Anyway, your other solution worked for safe mode.

I really appreciate your help. Thanks!

Glad that worked! I doubt the keyboard is involved in this process. I realize it's a hassle, but what I would do is a factory reset, then make sure you don't restore from a previous backup so that the tablet doesn't automatically reinstall your previous apps. Then start installing apps one by one, seeing if the problem comes back. You might have to reboot after installing each app, to see if that Optimizing Apps problem happens. It's tedious, but I think that might be the most accurate way to determine the culprit.

I can't see how I have an offending app. I deleted every single app that can be deleted, and I get the optimizing error when booting in safe mode. But factory reset has cured a few different problems with this tablet in the past, so I think it will this time, too.

Hard to say. It could be a combination of the older OS version trying to reconcile with the more recent app versions that are available for the preinstalled apps.
