Unable to sign in to YouTube on existing account - message 'Please check your network connection'

I am trying to sign back into my account on the YouTube app, but selecting the account to sign in to has no discernible effect.

Below the account (which I assume is a list of one thing) there is a warning "Please check your network co... Tap to retry". However, neither YouTube nor other applications on my phone are having connection issues otherwise. Tapping this reloads exactly the same popup.
 
Welcome to Android Central! I moved this from the Android Apps forum to the General Help forum, since the former is intended for developers to promote their apps.

Do you have multiple Google accounts on the phone? Go to Settings>Apps​, select YouTube, then Clear Cache/Clear Data. Now open it again and try to sign back in.
