Was planning on getting the Samsung Galaxy A50 with Freedom Mobile for $90+tax upfront on the $25 Freedom 500MB plan + $15 MyTab' unfortunately I found out today that a credit card is 100% required by them for a credit check required for setting up a tab & postpaid services in general so because I don't have a credit card I can't go with them I'm looking to spend the up to $90+tax on the A50 for another phone & go with another carrier with unlimited minutes, texts & at least some data (preferably unlimited/throttles after data cap with no overage fee) for up to $40-47.50/month. I'm thinking something with 32GB+ of storage and a 1080p+ display should be possible for $90ish Canadian, even if it's a 5+ year old model, on my local classifieds so far I found a local store with a HTC One M7 32GB for $89+Tax & a listing for a Huawei Nexus 6P 32GB, works great but the screen has a hairline crack for $120 though I'm hoping they're willing to take $90-100 for it, there's also a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that apparently works perfectly though it's pretty cracked & scratched up for $100. I'm just wondering what other options there are? If people want to kelp me search online I'm in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

I'm the OP, Here are some phone's i'm currently looking at:

Samsung Galaxy phone for $120, I asked for the model number & what's the lowest they'll take, the reply I got was $100, I replyed back & asked "What model is it? It looks almost like the Grand Prime I'm using currently except black instead of white, for that amount of money I'm hoping for something like a older S series like maybe a S4,5 or maybe 6 though I'd settle for a older A series like a A7 or 8 from 2014-2015 or a A5 from 2016." The reply I got was "it is a S5, 2017", the S5 is likely a typo so I think it's a A5 2017: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1449335551

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, cracks & scratches but still works perfectly, $100 firm: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1450294482

LG G4 in good condition, comes with case & charger cable, listed for $140 obo, I could get it for $95: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1450300306

Motorola XT1563 (Moto X Play) 32GB, listed for $120, I could get it for $100 with a otter box worth $80 on it's own & computer charger: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1449834043

Huawei Nexus 6P 32GB, screen got a hairline crack, I could get it for $110: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1434524899

    There's a Local Store with a HTC One M7 32GB for $89+tax, comes with a 30 day warranty: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1450433456

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with stylus & box for $100 firm: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1450531911

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 32GB, listed for $100 I could get it for $80: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1450555446

On eBay, there's a auction/BIN for a HTC One 32GB that I'm currently winning (little under 5 hours left, Max bid of $49.97 US ($64.98 Canadian or thereabouts), currently at $36 US ($47.27 Canadian), BIN is $79.99 US ($105.04 Canadian)), Free Shipping from Vancouver, BC, "This phone is in mint condition (9.0/10). It shows little to no signs of use on the body, such as scratches and marks. Notes: the vibration feature doesn't work, but this does not otherwise affect functionality. This device is unlocked and is ready to be used with most carriers worldwide. This device is free of any activation accounts. All our devices are tested to be 100% working and functional. Comes with a USB charging cable and wall adapter": https://forums.androidcentral.com/e?...token=5l-6FEKb

Edit: Edit: Thankfully I got outbid & lost out on that HTC One off eBay, I miscalculated my budget for the month & wouldn't have been able to pay for it until the 9th or 10, I let the seller know just in case I won & asked if a delayed payment would be OK & they were fine with it. Considering I lost out on it I don't have to worry about it now though, so as of right now I'm looking for something in the $45-55 range, if I don't get something by the 9th or 10th then I can go back up to the $90-100ish budget though would prefer to spend as little as possible. Here's what I'm looking at in the $45-55ish range, considering the low budget I doubt 1080p 32GB would be doable, so willing to settle for less:

Samsung Galaxy S5, missing back, extra battery, $50: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1450657465

    Acer phone, $40: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1447524460

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini with charger, $50: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1444070357

    Samsung J16 (Guessing J1 2016?), comes with cover & braided charger, $65: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1447334184

If you can push your budget a bit above $100, check out daily deal sites like Dailysteals.com, since you'll at least have some kind of limited warranty (usually 30 to 90 days). They currently have the 1st gen Pixel for $109: dailysteals.com/collections/buy-mobile-phones/products/google-pixel-32gb-quite-black-verizon-gsm-unlocked-at-t-t-mobile-smartphone It's almost 3 years old, but is still getting security updates (until October of this year), which is more than you can say for any of the other phones in your list. The camera is superb, because it's a Pixel. Main downside is mediocre battery life.

You can also find the Verizon S7 there for $119 (which is supposed to work on GSM networks as well): dailysteals.com/products/samsung-galaxy-s7-g930v-32gb-verizon-gsm-unlocked-smartphone

EDIT: Sorry, just realized that you're in Canada -- not sure if these deals are available there, but give it a try!

Just checked the site & I saw it there, if it is indeed available in Canada, according to Google $109.99 USD=$145.44 Canadian, I'd say that's better than prices locally, there's a store local that got it for $199(+tax) & offers a 30 day warranty, other listings that showed up on my local classifieds when I searched Google Pixel was the Pixel XL, 1 was listed for $150 Firm & another for $190, don't say if it's the 32GB or 128GB model, for $200 there's a 128GB standard Pixel or a 32GB Pixel XL, there would be no tax but also no warranty though.
Edit: Just checked the FAQ: https://dailysteals.zendesk.com/hc/e...ternationally-
"We are working on finding the best way to be able to offer our deals internationally, but at this time our deals are only available to ship within the United States."

Can anyone possibly identify these Samsung phones from looking at the back? Apparently they're broke (but it may only be cosmetic?), were found in a storage locker & being sold for $13: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...nes/1449595965

As for budget, I only have $11.61 right now, I should be getting another $64.32 on Friday (the 9th), $9.03 will be coming out after that for amazon prime so if I can not spend anything other than the monthly amazon prime sub I should have $66.90 total to spend, I could have a 2nd attempt at trying to get a discounted Galaxy A50 through Freedom & hope the credit check requirements vary from store to store and/or the salesperson & support person on Twitter was wrong/misinformed or get a 2nd hand phone for that little money & get a prepaid/pay as you go plan from some carrier.

OK, Forget the 2 broken Samsungs. I replied yesterday before posting & asked the following:
Hi, any chance that it's only cosmetic damage that they still function fine? Have you tried turning them on or hooking a charger to them if you have a charger that fits? How does the front look, you only have the 1 picture showing the back of the phones?
Today, I got the following reply:
IF I HAD CABLES I WOULD TELL YOU? DID YOU READ MY AD FOUND IN STORAGE LOCKER?
I replied back with the following:
I saw that & figured if cables were found with it it'd be included but it's not, assuming you have your own personal phone though that you might have checked if the charger for your own phone fit the phones you found & if it did fit if the phones would charge/turn on? For example, I have a malfunctioning LG G3 and a working Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime i'm using as a backup until I get another working phone to replace the G3, I don't have a charger for the Grand Prime though but because the charger port on both have a Micro USB connection, I could use the G3 charger to charge the Grand Prime.
    got this reply back:
You assumed wrong... serious people pick up the phone!
needless to say, I won't be going for it.

I love some of LG's phones, but stay away from this one. The G4 (and V10, for that matter) had a hardware design flaw that made them prone to bootloops. The G5/V20 and later don't have this issue. I actually still consider the V20 the best all around phone out there and what I currently use. I also had the G4 (upgraded after having the bootloop problem myself), and the V20 is a much better device. You should be able to find them at comparable prices to the G4.

The problem with that budget is your picking up phones that been damaged or probably on the way out , or with problems that could cost you money few months Down the road . If I were to get a phone in that budget used I would look for iPhone 6 around 145.00 that recently had it's battery replaced to hold over until you can get better phone and pay little more .
I'll use this analogy, if you buy a car that cost 500.00 do you think it's going be fine compared paying 2500.00 for used car . Yeah its way cheaper but your going put triple that money into it guranteed .

So I visited 2 Freedom Mobile stores & called the remaining 5 local stores in Kitchener-Waterloo today, no open box phones in stock/available, at all, of any kind & they no longer do lightly loved phones/it's no longer a thing, so my only options to get a new phone through them is to get a new phone based on the MSRP, if I do that I could get the Samsung Galaxy J3 or LG X Power 3 for $0 with a $40 plan+$5 MyTab for $45/month, Motorola Moto E5 Play for $0 on a $40 plan with no tab for $40/month or with a $25 plan it would be $30 upfront+$5 MyTab for $30/month, or if I can stretch my funds a bit (a extra $1, unless there are fees/charges I'm not fully aware of, such as a sim card fee/charge)perhaps the Motorola G7 Power for $60 upfront on a $25 plan+ $10 MyTab for a total of $35/month, all of the above prices are +tax ($13% HST here in Ontario).

Or, I could turn to the local used market for a used phone up to $65 (Thinking up to $75, maybe $80 & offer $65) & with it being used from a private seller there won't be any taxes, with that in mind in regards to the phones I linked before, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini w/ charger I linked above for $50 had a price drop to $40 today: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1444070357

Here's some other phones I found:

    Samsung Galaxy J3 listed for $70: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1449668914

Samsung Galaxy S9 for parts listed for $75, "The phone just stopped turning on. The screen has a tiny light scratch at the top left. It's not even deep. Other than that there's nothing wrong with the phone. It's basically mint. I think the problem is the battery", assuming it is the battery, roughly what would it cost for a replacement battery & get it installed (considering the battery is sealed/non removable): https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1451641597

BlackBerry DTEK50 listed for $70, includes case, charger & tempered glass screen protector (uninstalled): https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ion/1452086289

ZTE (Z557 most likely) for $60 (+reasonable delivery fee): https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/s...ers/1451935285

    Leagoo alfa5 for $40: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/c...one/1451907522

Old cellphones for sale, $40 for all 4 or $10 each, $20 each for iPhones: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ale/1451742384

    LG K4 (2017) for $50 obo, listed for $40: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/c...ked/1451695078

    Motorola w/ charger listed $80: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...one/1451404126

    Samsung Galacy Ace2 for $40: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ked/1450878444

    Motorola Moto G for $45: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...o-g/1450809165

Edit: Would it be possible to identify the Motorola w/ charger listed for $80? I done a google image search & google says Samsung Galaxy, at the top of the results there's 3 results with the same background/desktop image, a black Moto G5s & Galaxy S3 Mini along with a white Moto E, I replied & asked the seller for model & lowest price, he replied back & said $60, Motorola.
Edit 2: Edit 2: Replied back with "Motorola is the manufacturer/make, not the model, the model would most likely be a Moto G, Moto X, Moto Z or Moto E" the reply I got back was "Moto E"

Got money today & was going to settle for the Moto G7 Power, it should perform similar to my old LG G3 (according to gsmarena.com, the Moto G7 Power scores 1929 in Basemark OS II, 1831 in Basemark OS II 2.0: 1831 & 11525 in Basemark X while the LG G3 scores 1126 in Basemark OS II, 1327 in Basemark OS II 2.0: 1831 & 11552 in Basemark X) along with a bigger battery & longer battery life though smaller screen resolution.

Anyway, it's not happening today, I was hoping a health card would be good as photo ID considering it's issued by the government but apparently it's not (guessing because it don't have a address printed on it?), a drivers licence, provincial photo card or passport are the only valid forms of photo id, I have a photo card but it's expired but I renewed it (Have receipt, was renewed on June 20th) but haven't received the renewed card in the mail yet & I wasn't given a temporary paper to present with the expired card to show it's renewed with the new expiry date so I need to go to a Service Ontario location & find out what's going on & hopefully get a temporary paper with the new expiry date.

That was only a issue at 1 location though, a credit card (actual credit card, not a visa debit) was required at the other 2 locations I visited, I also checked at The Mobile Shop in a local Real Canadian Superstore, but they didn't have any of the G7 for freedom, only Fido & Rogers (1 of the locations that a credit card was required, the person there said to try Fido), but would have been ID limited anyway, as for going with Fido, the G7 would be on a small tab plan & the cheapest w/ data would be $65/month, out of my $40-47.50/month budget for a plan w/ data.
    08-09-2019 07:39 PM
  13. LettoLetto's Avatar
So I tried again today, I went to Service Ontario & they ordered another photo card for me, on the new reciept I got the person to write the expiry date on it so I can use the receipt considering that's the only paper they would give me, Went back to the Freedom location that didn't say a credit card was required & they were OK with the receipt along with the expired card for photo ID, so I used that with my CIBC Visa debit card, the person entered the information into the computer but it was a no go/declined, I was told I could still get service from them though, I could make a $50 deposit & try again in 5-6 months but that's basically a prepaid plan so I'd have to buy a phone outright to use a prepaid plan & I can't afford a new phone outright right now, only a old used phone.

Budget for a used phone is $65 Canadian right now, I can increase it a bit at the end of the month unless I sell some stuff by then.

Edit: Asking around on reddit for used phone recommendations, I got 2 recommendations so far today, someone recommended the iPhone SE, I checked my local classifieds & there's 3 between $75 & $85, lock button is broke on the $75 one & Home button can be selective at times on the $85 option, I asked for the lowest price from the 3 & only heard back from the $75 & $80 option so far:

iPhone SE 64g unlocked for $75, lock button broke: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/c...-75/1450271964 replied with "Hi, I'm not familiar with iPhones but is it still usable without the lock button? what's the lowest you'll take for it?", got the following reply back: Yes it’s still fully functional I’d do 50 for it"

iPhone 5 SE for $80: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...-se/1452516703 asked what's the lowest they'll take, they replied "That is the lowest Price im taking for it"

iPhone SE for $85: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ell/1441723178 replied & asked for lowest price, no reply yet.

Another option that was mentioned, for a new phone, is a Alcatel Tetra, $65 on amazon.ca (3rd party seller but fufilled by amazon) with 1 day prime shipping, after taxes it would be $73.43 after tax "has decent specs, and will work on Freedom Mobile's network, as it has 1700 MHz AWS. Has 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage, which is more than other phones in that price range.": https://www.amazon.ca/Alcatel-Tetra-...cUvbUpU6598076

Another phone that was recommended/mentioned was the Moto G, "they can be had for under $100 on Kijiji", so I looked & found 3 (2 working, 1 not) listed for up to $60:

Moto G in like new condition with charger running android 5.1.1 for $45, linked specs are for the G3 that came with 5.11, upgradable to 6.0 while the G1 started off with 4.3 & upgradable to 5.1.1: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...o-g/1450809165 (Looking at pics online, it does look like a G3)

    Moto G1 16GB with charger & Updated to Android 7.1.2, running on LineageOS 14.1-20190508 for $60: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...age/1435107786

Broken Moto G6 Forge for $60, does not charge or turn on, not sure what's wrong: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...rge/1445515415

after that there was a store with some ranging from $89 fro a G3 8GB to $199 for a G5S Plus or a brand new in box G5 Plus, other than the store there was a G6 Play for $150 & a brand new sealed in box G7 for $240

I replied to the G3 & asked if it's 8GB of storage with 1GB of RAM or 16GB of storage with 2GB of RAM, the reply I got back was 8GB of storage with 1GB of RAM, then someone on the reddit thread said "Talk to the seller of the G3 and ask what model number it is. According to GSMArena, the XT1540 should have the best compatibility with Freedom's network. You could also flash the phone with LineageOS 16 to run Android 9.0" so I replied back to the seller & said "If the model number is XT1540, I may possibly be interested, I'm just in the process of asking around & doing research right now before making a purchase", just waiting for a reply.

    According to someone on r/cellphones:

Good standing prepaid customers may eventually be pre-approved and sent an offer to migrate to a postpaid account with a $600 MyTab limit.
The deposit option will give you a $600 MyTab limit after 6 months of good standing account status.

So, if that's true & I'm understanding correctly, I can make a $50 deposit or buy a cheap phone to use for about 6+ months & get it on a prepaid plan & in 6+ months or so I should be eligible to get a phone that's up to $600 (Depending on if tax is included in that or not, for a MSRP of $600 or less (if tax is not a factor in the MyTab Limit) of their current offerings, I'd be thinking about the Galaxy A70 ($600 MSRP) or Pixel 3a ($570 MSRP) when the time comes, if tax is a factor I'd be looking at either the Galaxy A50 or Huawei P30 lite (both $450 MSRP) unless there's a open box Pixel 3a available (if open box=$50 discount, it'd bring price down to $520)) on a 2 year contract (Not sure how it'll work in the scenario, guessing any plan on the phone as the $600 MyTab limit would cover the outright cost of the phone?) after building some credit history with Freedom.

Until then though, I'd just need to get something to get me by while waiting for the time to come, While Band 66 would be nice, I'd settle for 1700 AWS for 3G & Band 4 for LTE, Band 13 would be a nice bonus also. $65 is my current budget for this month, if I wait until this time next month while spending nothing & saving money, then maybe $100-130ish would be my budget then, I'm just mainly thinking whatever it'll be would likely be a temp for a half a year at least then would become a backup.

Edit: just asked the guy on reddit Would it be possible to learn more about that? Is it posted somewhere on their web site? along with my understanding of it, he replied:
To be put on a deposit account you must fail a credit check then pay for the deposit and activate a postpaid line.
    I Replied:
Hmm, so pay deposit then get a monthly postpaid plan with no phone included, then in about 6 months if I make the payments & keep the account in good standing I could get a phone to use with the plan I was paying for, or bring my own phone to use until then so I wouldn't be paying for a plan I can't use? Sorry if I'm misunderstanding, it's the 1st time I'm trying to get service on my own without help from family (my current plan with Virgin Mobile is on a account my sister-in-law made in her name)
    He said:
You'll need to bring your own phone, as well as be 19+

    Another possible recommendation from reddit:

Umidgi and Blu offer cheap phones but I have no personal experience with either. I found a Moto E5 Play for $99 on Amazon Canada although most were around $150. It's a little higher than your budget but there may be a Moto E4 out there closer to your price range.
Checking my local Kijiji, only result for Umidigi was the A5 pro for $275 obo: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...pro/1452956260

For Blu, there's a local business with the Grand M2 & Vivo One Plus for $69 & $119+tax with 30 day warranty: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...own/1447220406

As for the Moto E, here's a almost brand new Moto E5 for $200 obo: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...one/1445392669

Brand new in package Moto E4 plus from Verizon, only opened to enter unlock code, asking $135: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...zon/1442992807

There's also this phone that has been relisted since I posted above, Motorola for $80, according to the seller when he had it before it's a Moto E & he'll take $60 for it: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...one/1452696370

Just had another look for local options:

Been focusing on eBay lately for the search, made a $55 offer on the Nexus 6 on Monday but it expired today so I bumped it up to a $65 offer, I feel the same will happen though.
There's a top rated seller with a feedback score over 113k & 99.8% positive feedback I've been looking at , they have a few options in my budget currently, here's some I'm considering sorted by ends soonest, shipping is listed at $12.99 standard shipping for all phones from Toronto to Kitchener:
ALCATEL 1X (5059A-2AALCA1), current bid at $38.99, ends tomorrow at 9am EDT: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e?...token=kbp12tQg

ASUS Zenfone Max M1 (ZB555KL), current bid at $45.15, ends tomorrow at 10am EDT: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e?...token=xanCW0I1

Sky Devices SKY 5.0 Pro II, BIN for $59.99 (70% off, was $199.99), Listed as used but description says open box grade B: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e?...token=3LVzHBTT

EKO Omega LTE Q60, BIN $59.99, open box grade A: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e?...token=pGnfxK2j

Local Kijiji options since I posted on Saturday:
Huawei phone listed for $85: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...one/1454461534

LG G5 for $75 Firm, When running the screen on high brightness, it can have some burn in, it's not permanent, and doesn't happen on lower settings: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/c...-g5/1454527503

BEATS BT DRE Audio HTC Smartphone, $70 obo: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/c...one/1454316761

3 LG Phones (looks like my G3) for $70, 2 good condition 1 just need new battery 1 shattered screen 1 works great: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/c...nes/1454237581

Ok, the 3 auctions I was looking at just finished, while I bid on 2 of them I ended up being the runner up so if the winner don't pay I should be eligible for a 2nd chance offer if the seller does that. the Alcatel 1x ended up going for $53, I put in $52 then the ASUS Zenphone Max M1 ended up going for $54, I put in $53, I never bid on the Moto E4 but that ended up going for $57 but if it's advised to go for that instead there's another one on the block except with scratches on the screen protector instead of scuffs on the back, ends tomorrow at 9:30 am EDT, currently at $34.90: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e?...token=IQvLapED

2 new listings from them, a BlackBerry KEYone that ends Sunday at 9am EDT, currently 2 bids at $1.25: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e?...token=X_VFCnCq
Another ASUS Zenphone Max M1 that's the same specs & condition as the one that just went, ends Sunday at 9:30 am EDT & currently 2 bids at $1.25: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e?...token=Zy83SVeX

Also, I noticed this here: https://www.androidcentral.com/best-...hone-under-100
Nokia 2 is best unlocked under $100 (USD) while the Alcatel 1x is the runner up, so while I missed out on the runner up the winner could still be a option as there's a lightly used Nokia 2 8GB listed on my local Kijiji for $90, I replied & asked what's the lowest they'll take, got the reply "$80. Exactly the same thing is selling on amazon.ca for more than double that.": https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...vel/1454264689

Edit: Just looked on Kijiji if any more options have been added since my post yesterday, there's a LG G4 in good condition without charger for $40: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/c...-g4/1454913840

Thoughts on the Galaxy S7 Edge, just found a local deal on one! $100, "Great Shape always been in a Otter Box one included", I replied & asked if they are open to offers, I got a reply back "$85 is the lowest i will go": https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...dge/1456404074
If I were to go for it, I should have the money tomorrow to pick it up then or on the weekend.
Edit: Welp, throw that hope away, I replied back & said "I can do $85 tomorrow or on the weekend, just to confirm but even at that price the OtterBox would be included & there's no issues with the phone?", got this reply back "Sorry, it's no longer available."
    The hunt continues.

I most likely won't go for it myself due to the cost when combined with a plan & won't be worth the cost at the end, but I'm just wondering how many people out there use rent to own/weekly financing services (such as Smart Choice or Easy Home)? I was just looking on my local Kijiji & saw a listing that Smart Choice got the Xiaomi Mi A1 64GB on sale for $9/week on a 104 week (2 year) term or outright for $619, regular price is $15/week, for the same weekly price ($9/week) on a 52 week( 1 year) term or outright at $349, they have the ASUS Zenfone 3 Max 16GB ZC520TL:

    https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ale/1456235763

Rent to Own Smartphones | Samsung Rental

After seeing that I checked Easy Home, they currently have the Galaxy A5 32GB & A20 32GB on sale for $12/week (Regular price is $19/week) on a 104 week (2 year) term:

Just done some preliminary math & I think my current budget right now would be roughly $135, if I wait until the 10th (2 days before the $5 off eBay coupon expires) I should get another $65 that would bring it up to $200ish though may end up being less, if I were to spend $50 for a deposit account with Freedom that would bring it down to $150ish.

Just done a look through Kijiji & Found these options:

    Samsung phone for $120: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/g...one/1456180526

S6 Edge for $120, "9/10 Condition-works perfect!" asked if open to offers, "Yes, the price is negotiable": https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...dge/1455864111

    Pixel 1 for $90: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/g...-90/1455579400

    S7 for $120: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...-s7/1429539554

HTC One M9 for $100, asked what's the lowest they'll take "I would do $75 and this phone can work with freedom I was with that Carrier", "It also has 32gb storage and 3gb of ram": https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1452486623

    Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus for $100: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ble/1452028305

    LG G6 (or Q6?) 64GB with otterbox for $130: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/c...box/1449004384

    S6 for $120 firm: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/c...-s6/1455117778

Also, my sister mentioned that she might be interested in getting a cheap used phone also & going with freedom as their prices look good, I think she would prefer a LG & I saw these while looking & kinda curious how they would be compared to her old LG Optimus G E973?, she never said a budget outright but maybe $200ish max though somewhere around $100ish or under would be preferred:

    LG X Power 3 for $120: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ked/1456638989

    Another X Power 3 for $100: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...r-3/1455656902

    Stylo 3 Plus for $80: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/guelph/80/1452963510

    Nexus 5 for $150: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/g...ked/1453473437

    Nexus 5 for $125: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...s-5/1455825514

    Nexus 5 for $100 firm: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ion/1450677478

    Nexus 4 for $85: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ale/1438631229

Also some phones in the G series such as the G3,4, 5 & 6:

    G3 for $65: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/c...ked/1455463862

    G5 for $140: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...-g5/1454774818

    G4 for $150: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...one/1451626365

    G5 for $100: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ing/1455961321

    G5 for $140: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...new/1455535949

    G5 for $160: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...-g5/1449369121

    G5 for $200: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...-g5/1446910297

    G6 for $199: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ked/1454267859

    G6 Thinq for $200: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ked/1455562253

    G6 for $200: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/c...sed/1455679871

There's also the local store I mentioned before that offers a 30 day warranty, their latest ad don't list the G4 or G5 so I'm guessing they may be out of stock, but in a old ad I found from last month they had the G4 listed for $119, G5 for $149 & in both ads they have the G6 & V20 for $199:

    https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ics/1448597606

    https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1456611583

Edit: I replied to the LG G6 (or Q6?) 64GB with otterbox for $130, I asked "Hi, any pictures? Is it the G6 as it says in the title or the Q6 as it says in the description? What's the lowest you'll take for it? Would it be possible to meet up somewhere in Kitchener-Waterloo?"
The reply I got back "I only have a mint condition unlocked samsung s6 grest price 32g 110"

Edit 2: I replied to the S7 for $120 and asked if they're open to offers, the reply i got "I could be, but to let you know i have been given higher offers so far"

Also, I got a reply to a wanted ad I posted "I have a brand new zte avid 4 just bought 3 days ago perfect condition unlocked comes with box and charger and warranty paid $100 for it at the store..could do like $60 for it ?"

Edit 3: heard back from the HTC One M9 again last night, asked if i'm interested, I replied "Just doing some research right now trying to figure out what phone to get, if I decide to get it i'll let you know" he replied back "Okay no problem", then just now today he replied with "Not sure if you're still interested or already made up your mind but I'd be willing to do $65""I really don't need it so I don't mind lowering price"

So I asked around reddit for some help again, here's some bits:

"As someone who's worked for cell phone carriers for a few years, Huawei is generally really good and well-priced. If you couldn't give a rats *** about security patches (don't download sketchy stuff and you'll be fine), you'll still have google play updates for currently available phones."

I looked for Huawei phones on my local Kijiji, here's some I found listed up to $150:

    Huawei Honor V8 listed for $149: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...5-7/1456541065

    Huawei GR5 listed for $120: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...gr5/1455989029

Huawei phone, "10/10 condition had a screen protector on but took off and screen is clean" listed for $30: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...one/1454461534

There's a ad for a store in North York, available online or in store, they have a Huawei Y5 Lite 2017 CRO-L23 for $149.99 & the Huawei Y6 (SCL-L04) for $199.99, both brand new: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/c...ocked/c1474644

    Huawei Y5 prime listed for $125: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-cell-phone/k...ime/1453809014

eBay listing showed up for a open box Huawei Ascend XT2 H1711 in 10/10 condition, on sale for $5 off at $94.99 with free shipping: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e?...token=RtNYv06Q

Here's another that showed up from same seller, open box Huawei Nova Plus (MLA-L13) in 8/10 condition, on sale $6 off for $113.99 with free shipping: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e?...token=JsuypzT2

someone compared the Galaxy S7 to the Galaxy A8 & said they'd prefer the A8 over the S7, they called 1440p 4k, someone replied to that & corrected them & said for 4K to get the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, Sony Xperia XZ Premium, Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium or Sony Xperia 1, I looked for those & would be out of budget, cheapest A8 was like $280 obo & there's a local store I mentioned before that had the Xperia Z5 Premium in a old ad for $199

"pixel 2/xl can be an option. see if someone from US will sell it you and ship to canada. there are some in your price range on swappa." swappa was a no go, but on Kijiji there's a Pixel 2 "hardly used" listed for $175: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1456511398

I replied with "Hi, Any Pictures? Any Issues? What's the lowest you'll take for it?", the reply I got back"It's black, only used a few months $150."

Someone also sent me a PM on Reddit:

"Hey Buddy! You said you wanted phone under $150? I've got an unlocked LG Stylo 4 Android Phone with Android 8.1. LINK It was lightly used in excellent condition and was used for a bit over a year on the T-Mobile network here in New York with great speed. The phone is in 8.5/10 condition with just some light micro-surface scratches on the front and back (cannot notice that much) In original box with 2 cases (only 1 shown) and the original charger and cable (NEVER Used) as well as a small power bank. Timestamp ALL for only $85 Shipped within the Continental USA. $100 via Priority to you in Canada.

Here's ALL My stuff I'm selling in case you're interested."

    amazon.com link: https://www.amazon.com/LG-Stylo-Unlo...cUvbUpU6627463

    Timestamp: https://imgur.com/caa0j2q

    Stuff he's selling: https://www.heatware.com/u/105796/items

Link to phone in question there: https://www.heatware.com/for-sale/LG...ones-3364.html

He also got a LG V20 listed for the same price, though mainly a Sprint phone: https://www.heatware.com/for-sale/LG...ones-3205.html

Anyway, I've been thinking & I'm leaning towards the HTC One M9 I found for $65, i think it may be good value though I can't say for sure, another possibility would be going all out & get the Pixel 2 for $150.

Ok, was considering the $65 HTC One M9 or $150 Google Pixel 2, but then when I asked on r/PickAnAndroidForMe what one would be better value, someone said "Pixel 2 or on the real cheap Umidigi A5 Pro, but Pixel 2 camera better than Umdigi A5 Pro.", I looked up the Umidigi A5 Pro & for a new phone I'm currently considering that, for me it would be about $143.50 from the official Umidigi store on aliexpress with estimated delivery in 38 to 53 days or I can get it from them on amazon.ca for $165.99 fulfilled by amazon & eligible for free prime shipping to get it in 2 or 3 days.

However, after my post in this thread on the LTT forums: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic...droid-unicorn/

I checked the Virgin Mobile site where I saw the LG G7 One for $0 on a Silver plan & noticed they currently have it so that with that phone they have $5 off the monthly bill & looking at plans they have a limited time offer to get unlimited minutes +1GB data for $50/month so with the $5 off/month being offered with the G7 One it would only be $45/month that's within my $40 (current monthly payment with them on a grandfathered plan) & $47.50 (my plan after using up to 50MB of pay per use data), needless to say i'm considering going that route also.
