I'm trying to recover text message image attachments from an LG G2. I managed to get an lbf file off of the (now non-functional) phone and followed the tutorial at https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/extract-file-form-lg-backup-lbf-t3362923, and now I have a folder with a bunch files named 0.pdu, 1.pdu, 2.pdu, etc, as well as an mms_backup.xml file. For some reason, I'm having difficulty finding information on what exactly these are, and what I need to open them. Could someone point me to a program that will open these?

Post #6 in that thread is pretty inclusive. HxD is very good in pulling the files out, as long as you know what you're looking for (and he tells you). Once you pull the zipped text files out, unzip them with 7zip. (Use Wine to run a Windows program.)

Or, as Post #8 says, use PhotoRec to pull everything out (spend some time on the site, learning how to use it, and what to expect in the output). There's a Linux version of it at the site.

Post #6 specifically says that it won't get into opening the pdu files after I have them, but I will give it credit for teaching me how to get to the pdu files at all. Photorec accomplishes the same thing, but is much easier to do. However, photorec won't recover anything from the pdu files.
