My N7 battery is taking longer to recharge. It seems to be worse after the 5.1 update. Is the battery on its last legs? It seems to hold the charge for the same time.

Welcome to Android Central! Have you tried different charging cables and wall plugs? Go to Settings>Battery while it's charging--does it say (USB) or (AC)? If it says USB while you're actually plugged into a wall outlet, that means it's inappropriately pulling a very low current, which might be due to a faulty wall plug.

Hi thanks for the reply. It does say AC in settings when charging, Im using a surge protected multi board with 8 plugs that runs my computer ,printer etc .
But its not much faster ,if any, than when I charge off a USB port on my PC or laptop.
The rate of charging is spasmodic and I have swapped various cables with my windows phone and a cheap Cubot phone, they seem to charge up fine.
I dug up Samsung Galaxy 2 prong asian type charger with an adapter and it is now charging off that, seems ok. Ill see how it goes.

you were right.my chargers were 1amp or less, but they still crawl to halt. I left it on charge overnight and it was still on 42% in the morning. I've ordered a new 2 amp charger and I'll see how that goes.

I got a new 2 amp Samsung charger in the mail today ,plugged it in and it charging like it should. Thanks B Diddy

My N7 started slowly charging/discharging while charging. Its a common issue it seems.
I changed chargers & data cables (as B Diddy said always use the correct mA).
That worked for awhile but eventually I replaced the micro USB in the tablet & it charges to full from 30% in about 2 hour's now :)
Just adding this info in case you run into this issue later or someone else reads this thread ;)

How did buy and change it the micro USB pay on the tablet itself?

Sent using my Verizon Turbo charged 64GB Ballistic Nylon phone unfortunately with a case on back

I bought a broken screen nexus 7 off ebay & swapped the micro USB's.
Its very simple & easy to do if you're careful :)
you can also buy a new micro usb on ebay for around $12 - I just needed other spare parts too so I bought a broken screen tablet ;)

Just a tip on the microusb connector fix for Nexus 7 2012. BUY THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY. There is an assembly that has microUSB and headphone jack all on a ribbon cable. It just screws in with unlocking and locking one ribbon connector. It's more expensive than the microUSB connectors. But unless you"re phenomenally good with a tiny soldering iron, it's very very difficult to solder the new connector to the ribbon connector. I know after 30 years as a ham radio operator and having soldered thousands of things in radios, I could not solder the connector, and destroyed the old ribbon connector just taking the old connector off. I still have two brand new microUSB connectors, but I've ordered the assemblies for all 3 of these I've fixed.

I think the Nexus 7 2013 uses a different connector and maybe it's easier, I only worked on N7 2012 models.

Agreed, buy the entire assembly (micro usb/3.5mm headphone jack) @around $12 shipped :)
My apologies for not being more clear ;)

Thanks. Looks like i just need to be sure I'm getting one compatible with the 2012 Nexus. From the videos I've found, the replacement looks to be a fairly easy job...

Its very simple :)

The nexus 7 2013 USB is part of a board & quite a bit more expensive so it is easy to differentiate between the two.
if in doubt just contact the seller most times their glad to help you out ;)

Thanks again. I don't see any bent pins, and it doesn't seem to be cracked, so I think I'll try using a contact cleaner first. If that doesn't fix it I'll try my hand at the repair.
