Every tech video i watched so far presenting the pixel 2 xl looks like its got washed out colours. Anyone noticed it? I pre-ordered the pixel 2 xl but thinking of cancelling it for now if it could be a defect

Here's an image from a youtube video.

yea I was seeing that to that makes me question the v30 screen also because isn't that suppose to have the same screen ? that polead technology ?

As an individual with perfect vision and a 4K tv. What are you comparing the colors to in my opinion? People were using display models that have had the screen on for no telling how long. All depends on what content you are viewing too.

Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, as shown in the picture. XL looks more blue.

Well, you're looking at a display so see a still picture taken by a camera of unknown quality at an angle that could allow for a fair amount of reflection of other colors in the room, and in unknown lighting.

Also, do we know if those phones are in SRGB mode (in which case, yes, the colors, despite actually being much more natural and accurate, will seem washed out relative to the in-your-face-oversaturation that is generally popular these days).

Seriously.... That image makes the 2 look blurry and I see nothing wrong with the XL. If I were you I would cancel because you will most likely have buyer's remorse.

I'm more worried about washed out photos from the camera than of the screen itself being bland.

The A/C initial hands on (I think it was that one) mentioned they found the display better than the OG Pixel display. If it wasn't the A/C one it was another (Verge maybe, I can't remember)..

POLED stands for Plastic OLED. Historically these have not been the best displays. I cannot comment on how good the technology is now, but I suspect it will not be at the level of what Samsung is offering. Typically POLED displays have not been able to get as bright, and generally had tendencies to be too red, green, or blue, most common being the reddish (more like magenta) tinge to the display.

Here is an article that discusses the POLED technology http://www.androidauthority.com/poled-vs-amoled-792869/ (Unfortunately it also does not credit the original article discussing this in any way...an article that predates this one by a few years).

The last phone that used a POLED display that I know of was the BlackBerry Priv and that was hardly a stellar display.

I suspect no displays are at Samsung's level of their current flagships IMO, so this isn't qualifying it much honestly. I used Notes for the past few years and the displays were spectacular.

We'll know soon enough. I'm sure there will be 100 reviews in the next few weeks to pour through.. I suspect it will be just fine. Initial Hands on videos seems promising/fine from what I saw ..

Image may be blurry but thats not the point. XL screen is noticeably blue than the none XL

Could be the difference between AMOLED and pOLED. Individually they might look fine but together you might spot some differences.

Personally, I just want an accurate display that isn't impossible to see in daylight. If slight color shifts can be adjusted in the OS, great, but if a display is both inaccurate and can't be adjusted, that will bother me. Hopefully Google will be adding a color temp adjustment slider in the display settings.

I won't judge it by that one shot especially the way it was taken. Can we really tell by the way it looks on our screens? We all have different phones and I do see a difference but the colors on the smaller one look worse.

1. It looks just like if you set a Samsung display to basic: looks less saturated but color accurate. It should have some setting to adjust it.

2. The only difference between POLED and AMOLED is the manufacturer and the way they handled it. AMOLED uses plastic too, and POLED also uses an active matrix. They just highlighted different aspects to make a brand name. Both brands actually uses the same technology as the other (plastic base and active matrix). So basically the differences between the two would be the quality the factories can produce the components used.

I looked at some reviews and it look fine. Can't judge a screen on another screen that well so I'll judge my individual copy when it gets here. If I don't like it I'll return it.

...which still can make for a large difference. Displays are all over the map on quality and end-users are all over an entirely different map on what they consider acceptable. That's why I'm trying not to go down the rabbit hole of finite details here. The difference between AMOLED and pOLED in that particular lighting and at that particular angle is noticeable in that photo, but individually and in-person they might look fine to an end-user.

Exactly... and exactly my plan as well.

This to my best knowledge is incorrect. Samsung has to date been using glass substrate OLED. I think that they are now moving towards plastic for the truly bendable displays. S8 series may be the first Samsung high-end with plastic substrate but I'm not 100% sure that the S8 series is in fact using plastic substrate.

Do you happen to know if the Pixel 2 display is in fact a Samsung? I figured it is but have not read about panel suppliers for the smaller phone to confirm.

I don't know where I heard this, but I heard that the display is made by LG. I might be wrong.

So, both the 2 and 2 XL will be LG? I suppose that makes sense given that Google probably doesn't want to pay Samsung any more than necessary. 5" AMOLED panels seem pretty common. If you find any definitive evidence let us know. I'm mainly just curious myself.

Watch the videos -- You will see it isn't like that. I wouldn't make my judgment from a picture or even a video.. I would wait till I saw it myself :P.
