I knew that you could silence an incoming call using the squeeze feature (I use that frequently) but I didn't think you could turn on DND by simply squeezing.
What apps do you all have installed that are downloaded... I am wondering if its an app causing the issue? Can someone with the issue post what apps they use besides the ones that come with the phone... Nothing is working to fix this issues, I had the issue on my old Pixel XL now I have a new Pixel XL and have the issue again... WTF...

If you think it may be a 3rd party application causing the problem simply reboot into Safe mode and see if it works properly; Safe mode prevents all 3rd party applications from running.
Since YOU are having the problem you could post a list of 3rd party applications that you're using and perhaps someone else will comment on something in the list. You could use something like Share Apps https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...gers.shareapps to generate such a list.

The problem with using safe mode my business and the way I make money revolves around Trello (inventory tracking, Slack, and emailing... I dont have time to mess with safe mode... I used safe mode for as long as I could yesterday. So that was a good 8 hours plus night time bleeding into this morning and oddly enough I missed txt messages without being notified or any sound what so ever while in safemode... I uninstalled updates then disabled Google Phone and Google Messaging hoping this will fix it... See if using Textra and Drupe will have any luck.. This is so f***ing annoying...

My phone was working just fine for over a year with all of these apps. The only thing that's really changed is the new OS... Soooooo annoying!!!!!!!!!!

And you checked your Volume settings and verified that they're turned up?
You're not only having problems with phone calls not ringing, but also not hearing notification sounds? Any other audio that's not occurring?

There is an ongoing issue with ringing for incoming phone calls and notifications for incoming text messages. It is not a silly user error, such as volume set too low or do not disturb being on. It also is not due to a custom ringtone. I've had this problem for about six weeks. It is intermittent. Rebooting fixes for a while, but then it comes back. I have an original Pixel purchased directly from Google. I never had the slightest problem until fairly recently. I've been having all sorts of problems for the last two months or so. All day today the phone vibrates for a phone call or text message, but emits no sound. Worked fine yesterday. Will probably work again after I reboot. It is extremely frustrating that Google has not fixed this yet.

Same problem. I have tried every fix I can find. Do not disturb cycling during/after call, disable battery optimization for phone and messenger, reboot, change from LTE to 3G. The only thing that worked for me was the last, but data was 25x slower... Lots of discussion here at Google: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/73803081

I have never had a problem with my PIXEL XL until I installed 8.1 and now, no matter what it does not ring on incoming phone call. I have tried everything. It is an issue in 8.1. I even replaced my phone worked until I upgraded to 8.1. if they don't fix it I'm going back to Samsung.

I have a Motorola Moto G android phone. It sometimes goes into a mode where it does not ring, even though settings are correct. After hours searching the internet, I came across the solution: Install the SoundAbout app. Works like a charm. It seems that after playing podcasts through a headset, the phone gets confused about the audio outputs, and thinks you still have the headset connected.

I thought I'd post the solution here, since it was hard to find this advice.

App immediately force closes itself on Oreo 8.1 on Nexus 6P. Bummer. This problem really sucks... Thanks for posting, hope it helps some people.

Same thing happens on Pixel 2 XL; not surprising, since it was last updated in December 2016.

For a while placing the phone in 3G mode instead of 4G corrected this problem. Then, without any other major changes that stopped working. I then was exploring Google Voice App and call forwarding settings. I found that reverting the unanswered call forward (voice mail) setting from GV back to carrier standard and back again to GV is another workaround. However, call still do not ring with 4G.

My One Plus One with AOSP AEX 5.5 Oreo 8.1 am have this problem too. Some of you may remember Volume Locker app that was available on Play but since gone as it is not supported any more. Hope some one would take the challenge. Anyway, I noticed I get a notification of the call but no ring but, the Volume Locker let's me know that my Volume has changed and do I want to save it? I hit yes and it rings. Now I noticed that it only happens on advertising calls. So, my guess is that some phone service out there is offering to ring your phone and in order to overcome your best efforts to block these number and tries to change your system settings so the sonofa.... gets to bother you. It is my guess that Google the Sell, sell, sell company designed it that way to help these companies bother you. So, the call itself is trying to modify the system and is burping with this new technology. We need a hacker to write an app to hack the call and remove the ability to modify the system volume type app. Just a guess.

    This worked for me.

For some reason my phone switched on the "Do not disturb" mode. Turn it off and the ringer will start working again. I was missing a bunch of calls but seems all good now. If you go to settings and go to "Sound", you'll find the "Do not Disturb" feature. Just turn it off. I even switched the setting to only receive people on my contact list. Hopefully no more spammers!! Try this before rebooting or any type of reset. I love my Pixel 2XL again!!! Good luck!

I'm using android 8.1 and for the life of me I can't get my phone to ring on incoming calls. I have a tone set and the volume is maxed but no ring tone plays when a call is received. When I look at the notification channels for incoming calls on the phone app the notification sound is set to "none" and the option is greyed out so it can't be changed. Has anyone seen this or know how to change it?
Hey all. Faced a similar problem today with my Pixel 2XL. Resolved in half an hour. So far so good with the phone. I had spent a lot of time reading all the posts here and trying all things everyone mentioned here. Do check the following:
    1. Does the loudspeaker work during calls?
    2. If you are having music stored in the phone or even videos, do you get the same volume if played on the loudspeaker? Play at max vol.
    3. Check your alarm clock volume if it is working.
    4. Rest all issues same as the forum has been discussing.

If above 1, 2 & 3 answers are NO, then its a problem with a small coil, hardly identified by naked eyes, but quite clear with a magnifying glass. This coil can go off in case of
    a) connecting the phone via cable to the car, if the cable is not a certified quality
    b) connecting cabled headphones, again using of local headphones with cheap quality cable
    c) in case of any accidental fall.

I took my phone to a nearby mobile service centre, just 5 mins from my place. He immediately opened the case and repaired. The above details told to me by the mechanic who did it.

    Also additional information was :
Tone of the ring / notification
    Alarm clock tone
    Loudspeaker
Are three things whose output is from the lower speakers and this coil getting short due some reason disconnects the speaker.

Phone music or videos is through both top and bottom speakers, so phone music can be heard, but at a lower volume.

My phone now working fine. Sharing this information as I learnt from the mechanic.

Hope it helps you all. It might just not be a bug issue, maybe just be a bugging situation.

I just tried this workaround and hope it helps. For background my issue only happens if I have bluetooth connected. From the sounds menu I saw that all media was coming to bluetooth (which is what I want) but I think ringtones were also being treated as media.

So to "fix" I changed the media output to phone and restarted device. Bluetooth again was default media choice but now my ringtones come via my handset. This seems to have fixed the issue, for now anyways.

BTW - What a pain to have to figure out and research a workaround to something that should not be an issue. Phones are supposed to ring unless we choose to silence them. Kind of a basic thing.

Nothing's basic about Android anymore..... and they're just overcomplicating it more with every new version. I think they're losing their way making changes just for the sake of change :-(
