Not natively, no. That's really just a Samsung thing, I believe.

Can't for the life of me think of why they put that on the left. Most of the world's population are right handed and it's a lot easier to hit the back button when it's on the right. Now there is just nothing there.

Because that has always been where the back button has been on pure Android phones.

I'm right hand but use the phone with my left so it's not a issue. Wife is the same way.

It's frustrating, especially since the right side is blank. Would be way easier to use with one hand if this was an option.

I got used to the back button being on the left, and the "blank spot" on the right I use to switch apps quickly (also works in split screen and picture in picture) but at least it has it's use. It would be nice to be able to change that layout too.

Personally I'm used to back button on the left and whenever I use the Galaxy phones first thing I do is switch the back button to left on them. Main thing I do that is to keep consistent with other Android phones since I keep switching between them often. Many OEMs give the option to switch that up but generally you don't get many customization option on Pixel phones. Not a big deal for me personally but I can see someone used to only Galaxy phones and it can be really hard. What I would say is give it few weeks and hopefully you will get adjusted to the back button being on the left.

If you rooted your phone you could probably find a modification that provides that functionality.

Custom Navigation Bar on the Play store, works perfect. No need to root the phone either, just have to connect it to your PC and allow the permission with one command. Super easy and fast!

There is one funky option you might want to try just for the fun of it --

Settings -> System -> Developer options -> Force RTL layout direction.

Basically, it flips the entire screen so that everything that is normally on the right is now on the left and vice versa.

PS: In my experience, right-handers generally hold a phone in their left hand. This is probably a learned behavior that involves keeping the dominant hand free for taking notes or whatever while engaged in a phone conversation.

Not also that right-handers most often wear their wristwatch on the left arm, for similar reasons.

I would love if you could just turn it off. It's not even needed. I know where to push to "go back"

Reading is left to right, when you go "back", logically you are going back left therefore the back button should be on the left. Going forward is to the right, as in when you turn a page in a book. On my S8 I keep the back button always on the left. Works perfectly for my brain 😀
