Android Central Question

I have recently installed Android 10 on my pixel 3 and now when people phone I cannot hang up, the scrern goes black and cannot use it use my phone for a few minutes afterwards. I have tried powering off and in but doesn't seem to help.

I too am having this problem since updating my pixel 3. Quite annoying especially if trying to hang up from voicemail. Not a good update.

Welcome to Android Central! So both of you find that when you're on a call, the screen blacks out and doesn't come back on until the call ends? Do you have a screen protector on, or a case that doesn't fit well? That might be blocking the proximity sensor.

Also, does this happen in Safe Mode? https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/2852139?hl=en

It's almost definitely not update-related - the 2 and 3 have the same code for the proximity detector, and mine releases in about ¼ of a second when I take it away from my ear. I see the screen coming on only in my peripheral vision. By te time I can actually see it, it's fully on.

This is not the case with my phone. My screen does not react to anything. I have to press and hold the power key for it to bring the screen back to life. When I phoned my voicemail earlier I couldn't hang up because the screen disappeared completely. I had to try and turn it off.
It has only happened since I updated the phone and have not downloaded or used any apps since.

The safe mode option does not allow me to make or receive phone calls so it is hard to see if this problem is resolved.

That shouldn't happen. Safe Mode doesn't disable preinstalled and system apps, so calls should still work. Do you get an error message when trying to make a call?

B. Diddy is correct. Safe mode doesn't disable the core system. Have you tried a factory reset without reinstalling any apps to see if the problem persists?

If it does, then you should contact Google or your service provider that you purchased the phone though to see about a replacement.

Welcome to the forums. I agree with the posters above, the stock dialer should work in safe mode. Are you using a third party dialer app? Have you disabled any system app?

Also, just to be sure, you are referring to calls made and received over a conventional carrier's network, and not VoIP calls using a platform like Skype or WhatsApp, right?

Yes using the phone button not what's app, Skype or any other app. Going to try factory reset and see if that helps. If not I will take the phone into team know how at carphone warehouse to see if they know. Thank you all for you help, I just about got the technical terminology lol.

Nope after factory reset it is still not letting me hang up on people I phone or people who phone me. Going to take it to the shop. Must be something wrong with the handset.

You can request a chat directly with Google customer service from within the system settings.
