Contacts refuse to sync from HTC 10 to Android Wear device

I have an unlocked HTC 10 running 7.0 and recently acquired a Michael Kors Access Android Wear smartwatch. The watch will sync everything properly with the 10 except for contacts; it constantly displays "contacts temporarily unavailable".

I have done 4 factory resets on the watch, uninstalled Android Wear twice, restarted both devices numerous times, given full permissions to the app and watch, played with the cloud sync settings, and it still will not display any contacts no matter what I attempt.

Any ideas?

Update:

I reset the watch again. Nothing. Set it back up, gave full permissions, nothing. Shut the watch down, turned it on again, immediately shut it down again, forgot about it for about 15 minutes, turned it back on, and now it has contacts finally!
