Need help - red exclamation mark in recovery

My optimus I rooted myself so I'm not a complete noob. Right now I have a evo 4g but its pattern locked and wants a Gmail account. I tried going into recovery to do a factory reset but when I select recovery it takes me to a green icon that looks like a refresh symbol above a phone and then turns into a Red exclamation mark. Could anyone point me in the right direction? Hboot is what gave me the recovery, fastboot, simlock and other options just a fyi. Any help would be appreciated!

Ok so I just deleted user data and can use the phone, before I even bother looking into unlocking it for boost mobile is hboot a custom recovery? I don't have root I know that but hboot looked non factory.
