FWIW, my Sprint phone worked in the US Virgin Islands.

I was there with mine in September. I was able to make calls, but I didn't. Rates did pop up before the calls were placed. From what I remember, it wasn't cheap.

So u were able to make calls from your EVO from Jamaica? I'm going there in February and i was wondering about this. Does anyone know if u can add international minutes ahead of time with sprint?

Wife and I were there two years ago, and we were able to make and receive calls. In fact, someone attempted to break into our house, and our alarm company called us while we were in Jamaica.

We are with Sprint, FWIW.

Nothing stops you from using it. As a paperweight, or as a android device to play games, etc etc.

If you want to use the CDMA/WiMax capabilities, why don't you ask sprint?

Sprint has international information on their website. I'll summarize: It's expensive.

Ideal would be your resort or destination having wifi. Then you could use Google Voice, Skype, etc. to call folks without paying anything.
