Google bidding on Nortel's Patent.

Did anybody else catch this? Google announced that they made a bid for nortel's patent.

I thought they would have bought Palm for the patents if they were interested in handheld data and communications. Wouldn't Nortel patents have more to do with network equipment and fiber optics? ISP type holdings?

One would think.... But maybe that kind of network interoperability between mobile devices and other platforms is exactly what Google is after. I'm quite certain this isn't a blind or un-thought-out leap for them.
