I have had my phone for about 6 months now. I have never found the volume controls intuitive. Perhaps I just don't understand it. In order to adjust the phone ringer volume I go into some type of phone menu screen and then use the volume control button and vice versa for general sounds. I never know if when I hit the volume button it is going to adjust teh ringer volume or general sound volume. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Yeah once set your volume shouldn't change unless you change it. Usually if nothing is playing and you use the volume rocker the ring is affected. Pressing the volume rocker and touching the gear should open your sound profile where you should see your options, but it may be different on the Google edition. As for intuitive if something is playing general volume is affected, if nothing is playing ringer volume, as for notifications I believe the only way to affect them is opening the settings and making changes and the same for alarms.

However, and I'm not sure if this affects the Google edition phones but there have also been a few bugs that have been reported with the One since 4.4 causing volume issues. There have been reports of adjusting one setting and others being affected, or volume seeming to randomly change. Below I've included some of the links to these threads.

at night i usually listen to music when going to bed. i usually want to make sure my ringer is off. this is where i run into problems. on my iphone i would simply flip the switch on the side. but with my htc, like you said, if i am in audio mode then the volume controls that. i will just have to play around a bit more and maybe go into the settings. thanks again.

Look at the widgets. There's one for volume control. Now I know it controls the ringer volume, vibrate and silent mode. Does it control the media volume? I'm not sure. However if it only controls ringer volume that could be an option. If you don't want to exit an app to press a widget or if the widget controls all sound Do Not Disturb could be an option. You can put DND on your pull down quick select settings screen. One tap and right back into your app. Go in and look at the settings for that and it will automatically turn your ringer back on for you in the mornings, or whatever your schedule is, so really you're getting two for one with that.

I'm so sorry... I've had "power widget lite" for so long that I'm not sure if HTC ever had one. Here are a few that are similar.

Where you able to look art DND? The more I thought about it the better it seemed to me. We all have those people in our lives who's call or text we don't want to miss, and if they're calling knowing it's my down time I definitely don't want to miss it. Right? With DND those calls still come through everything else is blocked and I don't have to remember to turn everything back on.

The quickest way is to two finger pull down notifications, click on pad and pencil upper right, add it to your quick settings.

I don't have this on my phone. Perhaps because I have the Google edition phone?
