My first option could be a launcher. It will change the way your phone looks and it's good fun. My favorite is Nova. Also you could try Zooper Widgets to make your own widgets. Both have free versions full of features.

Install the Amazon app store and keep an eye on the daily software giveaway. Sometimes they have nice game that you would normally pay for.

I don't have an M9, but I like Pushbullet, Keep, PowerAmp, Chrome to Phone, ES File Explorer, Tasker with Secure Settings, and Zedge.

If you're not into paying for apps, get Google Opinion Rewards....you take short surveys (usually 3-4 questions max) and get paid a couple cents up to a dollar or more for each....it won't make you rich but its perfect to build up a couple bucks to buy an app.

I don't use a ton of apps, but a few I use most are IMDB, Pulse News by LinkedIn (I use it for all my tech news), SoundCloud, Textra, CloudMagic, and of course Tapatalk.
