I want to share the solution to a problem that's been driving me nuts. Ever since some (?) Android upgrade, the Maps app has been showing a bar at the bottom saying "Explore [something]", in addition to the search bar on top that I'm often not using.

You can remove all this clutter! It doesn't swipe away (I tried that), but just tap someplace (else) on the map and it will all vanish, even the location and direction buttons, and simply let you use the map. Tap again to get it back if you want. Supposedly this feature debuted in Maps 9.11 so it should be on most phones by now.

What I hate about touchy interfaces is all the features like this that I don't even know are there, because there's no equivalent setting you can find on the menu. Would anyone else like to share further tips like this for Android system apps?
