Mother-in-law android problem

So my Mother-in-law is having an issue with her phone, it charges fine, even when connected to laptop/desktop, however not a single computer recognizes it, it runs on marshmallow, if someone would shoot me a txt [removed by moderator], that would be awesome

Which phone does she have? When she connects to a computer, tell her to swipe down the notification panel and see if there is a USB icon there. If so, tap it and make sure MTP (or File Transfer) is selected. If you don't see a USB icon, then try a different cable.

Why does she want the computer to recognize it? File transfer, photo transfer,…? She may want to do something that it won’t support. MIght ask the “five whys.”
