Slow Motion Video: Is it any good?

So I've recently come across the need to take slow motion video. Tried it with the Note 4, and not sure if it was the Lollicrap update that screwed things up, but it looked BAD. Obviously went with the slow motion video from my work iPhone 5S, which looks super smooth and nice. But it's a PITA getting the darn thing off an iPhone, even if you share the file it seems to 'lose' the slow motion thing.

Does the G4 have this? Has anyone tried it? How does it look?

I haven't tried on my M9 yet, but I don't know that anything beats the slow-mo on the iPhone 6. It looks crazy good. Have you tired this app for sharing from your work phone?
Share 240fps slow motion video from your Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to social networks

See? That's the thing... the slow mo video from Note 4 reviews looks decent, yet the real deal isn't nowhere near what it looked like. Again, not sure if it was something Lollipoop broke since I didn't use it before that, but still...

There are two ways of doing slo-mo. You can record fast, then play back at normal speed, or you can record normally, then play back slow. The first is the one you've probably seen of a bullet piercing a light bulb, or a drop of water hitting the surface of water. That's good, even if the effect is only done at 4X for the recording. (It's not THAT slow when it's played back, but it's slow and it's smooth.)

Doing it the second way gives you what I can't describe here, because we're not supposed to post words like that, but let's just say that terrible is a lot more compliment than it deserves.

I don't know which phone does it which way (or if the spec is published for all, or even any, phone, but that's what you want. (If it doesn't play as slo-mo on another app or device, it's the first way - the app has to slow the playback down. 2X isn't too bad. 4X gets a bit choppy. 10X is garbage. 4,000X the first way (a bullet going through a light bulb was taken at about that speed) is nice smooth video. If you want to see a very extreme example, watch Extreme slow motion photography at 1 trillion frames per second - that's one trillion fps recording speed, yet when the calculated playback is done at normal speed, it's smooth.

Thanks for that :), always enjoy those guys' videos haha

I know how SlowMo video works, and I even know that Samsung's phones are supposed to do it 'the right way', but to achieve that they lower resolution to be able to shoot at a higher framerate which is then played back at 'normal' speed. BUT the video I'm seeing now is really choppy, not smooth at all, and though it does say the video is fullHD, it really doesn't look like it is. I may upload a sample and post it so you can see what I mean. I've seen videos online taken with Note 4's and they don't look this bad.

I'm hoping the G4 can really do better than that.

The G4 has the same slomo quality and playback as the G3 IMO. Where as the note 4(and S6) is the best Android performing slomo because with the lollipop update they brought the slider and playback that completly mimics the iPhone and we can be honest here, the iPhone 6+ at 240fps and ease of use of slowing down pieces of the video you want slowed down is the best in the biz right now

what is the quality of slomo video on the G4? looks terrible tbh on mine so far.

though it's my first encounter with smartphone slomo so i'm going to assume this is as good as it gets for now.

Terrible slow mo on my g4. It's 120fps 720p but looks crappy. Love the phone but not impressed with video. Was hoping for 1080p 60fps at least but only 30fps.
