It's frightening how wrong you are... My Nexus 7 has a 3.5mm jack, USB audio works perfectly. The P580, also has a 3.5mm jack and USB audio works, as have many other devices I have tried. The exception being the Galaxy Note in my OP, even that routed audio via USB, but acted like a CD skipping...

I have been running a 2012 Nexus 7 in my car for a few years now, but the tablet is starting to show its age. The problem I am finding, is a replacement device that functions as well is virtually impossible to find. I tried a Samsung Galaxy Note 2014 edition, it did not like reading flash...
