I prefer to not use Google contacts at all. It seems like a hassle just to update photos on the computer. Changing or adding pictures on my phone is faster and more convenient.

I'll give this a try. Every other method I use the phone magically puts it back in. One time I even got the blank friends box to disappear but the phone reinstalled it back with facebook.
