If I'm not misunderstanding some of the messages in this thread, a few people already tried to cancel and got nowhere with AT&T. Their system might conveniently be showing "order sent to warehouse" or some similar uncancellable status.

If they actually ship the phones as the order status page says on 8/17-8/18, then I really won't know how to feel. I'll hate them, 'cause they didn't ship early, and I need my fix and I can be unreasonable when I need my fix. Then again, I'll respect them a little as they did what they said...

Still no charge on CC, no status update. And here I was, thinking I'd get it early, since I technically ordered it on the 2nd (with a few minutes to spare).

John has been claiming that the phones will start shipping today. I trust him (her?) as much as I trust every other anonymous person on the internet, but I also hope he (she?.. it?) is right.

Order Date 08/02/2016 at 11:57:23 PM EDT, still "Preparing to Ship" and no charge on my CC. Black Onyx. I had high hopes with all the "S7 and S7E preorders shipped early" buzz, but AT&T managed to disappoint yet again.
