New to android and trying to set up my wife's phone. I would like to have my gmail setup as the market account, but don't wan't the email to come through. Is there a way to do this?

I am new to android coming from webOS. I am having problems with my calendar. When a recurring event comes up as a reminder and I dismiss it, the future events no longer show up on my phone even though they are still in my Google calendar. Is there a specific way that I am to dismiss these...
