No you won't need to un-root to get ICS, but it will break root, so you will need to re-root after.

You could have just used a launcher, and various apps to get the vanilla look and feel. I did just that. I can't tell the difference between vanilla Gingerbread on my Nexus One, and "my version" of Gingerbread on my SGSII. Touchwiz what? LOL
