Nevermind, I found it. It turned out that disabling notifications for the Download Manager cleared them up. They remained cleared, too, even after later re-enabling its notifications. Thanks a lot, though, for the suggestion. Appreciate it!

One more quick informational addendum: this is Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop).

I should add also that there seems to be no way to simply cancel the downloads under Settings. I can't find any references to the two queued files anywhere under Settings. I don't want these notifications to remain on my phone forever! 😊 Again, TIA to anyone who can offer any advice!

You may have inadvertently hit "Invert colors" in the drop-down menu (the one that you can pull down from the Notifications bar at the top of the screen). First time it happened to me I was quite perplexed as to what was going on. Don't know about the upside-down thing, though. Sorry.
