Rukbat, have you tried this procedure and was it successful? I have used that app many times before, and I would like to try this, but I also don't want to risk losing the sent messages for good.

We have two of these phones in our house and they both do the same thing. It is normal. The heat wouldn't come from the speaker, but rather the amplifier circuitry for the speaker. The amplifier is what amplifies the signal to drive the speaker. It is likely located right underneath the speaker.
