In light of the upcoming LG V30 is the G6 still worth a buy? Will this device last me a good 2 or 3 years? Just want a device that is affordable and yet will remain relevant for a couple moons.

I bought the G6 for my daughter and it's still working great.

If you can get a good deal, I'd go for it. I came from an older Galaxy s4, and all I can say is this thing is quite a bit faster and the dual lense camera alone has made it worth it for me. The only drawback for me has been the google assistant autostarts on bluetooth long press now. And it now requires ALL google account optional services to be turned on which I refuse to do (web logging, device contacts, location logging, etc). I really wish they would allow people to at least make a hands free call without enabling EVERYTHING google assistant can do... they used to give us this minimal ability for free, but every time you upgrade, they want more and more of your information or they refuse to operate. Not everyone wants to be able to ask google assistant where they parked their car, what they searched for on the internet last week, what they ate for breakfast, etc...

I've had my G6 for about 3 weeks now...for the price, its awesome. I have zero complaints. Went to bed after 17 hours with 63% battery left...hard to complain about that.

I have had the G6 for 2 weeks now, and I can honestly say that this phone is perfect for me. I have had the Galaxy S4, the LG G3, the HTC One (m8) and now the LG G6. The best part of this phone for me is the large screen size with the small overall phone size. I have looked at the specs for the V30. Yes, they are impressive, however the phone is just too big overall for me. So, if you are deciding on specs alone, the V30 is probably worth the wait. If you're like me, and hate the bulkiness of todays smartphones, then the G6 is a good compromise between screen size and overall size.

Hello! Yes, absolutely, the G6 is a worthwhile and long-term buy. I think it is one of the best yet underrated flagships of the year. There are a lot of satisfied users here around the forums; and LG is also offering a two-year warranty on the G6.

Here are just a few things the G6 has that make it awesome:

- 3300 mAh
- 5.7" display but the screen-to-body ratio is such that it can fit comfortably in your hands; even if they're small
- double tap to wake/sleep
- AOD
- two-year warranty by LG
- it will most likely be sold at a discount when the V30 drops
- water resistant and dust resistant (within specific parameters)
- it's a beautiful phone

There are many more great features too! Let us know what you decide! :)

I've been contemplating a G6 as the next logical "cheap" step from my one-year old Nexus 6P (which I got from the Amazon warehouse $225 deal). It gives me a newer processor, big screen/small form factor, and good camera. Also the price of good used ones is rapidly approaching $300.
The only other alternative would be a Pixel XL - as big as my Nexus 6P - not enough psychological "newness" to convince me to trade up - and prices are still pretty healthy.
But I will miss being first in line for new OS's. I'd have to downgrade to Nougat from Oreo (not that big of a deal).
But I keep hesitating - thinking my mint 6P 64GB will get me pretty close to a decent G6 ($100 difference), but then wondering if I should bother....

I understand your point. I think I've decided from my next phone on will be a Google phone for the reason you stated. There will always be new hardware the month after you buy a new phone, but there's something to be said of having a phone that at least will be brand new software wise. I think having that will keep my wandering eye always wanting the next best thing a little at bay.

That being said, my G6 is as solid of a phone as I have owned. I literally have no cons to speak of. I'm sure it will get Oreo in a reasonable manner, and LG has been better with security updates. I'm not sure if the 6p would get 9.0 (peanut butter?) anyway, so comparing these two phones specifically I'd vote on the G6.

Ah yes, I forgot about that! I think the 6P is done at 8.0. I'd really prefer a Pixel 2 XL, but certainly not at the current price point! Maybe in about 15 months it will make sense!
I guess I'll stalk Swappa this weekend to see if anything pops up.
I was also looking at used Essential Phones - just in case they took a horrific nose dive in the used market - but not yet.

So my Note 4 is dying on me and I'm thinking of something a bit smaller. My options are the s7 and the g6. Never really cared about having the latest phones. Which is a much better buy? Considering the notorious reputation of LG regarding bootloops and stuff?

With regards to the bootlooping, the G4 was the model most likely to bootloop. LG is also giving out a two-year warranty on the G6 now. And there are no known cases of yet with regards to bootlooping; at least as far as I have seen around the forums. I would still recommend the G6 - even though it's a little bigger at 5.7", its screen-to-body ratio is such that it is very easy to hold - even for someone like me, with small hands!

Did you make calls or anything? I only get such great battery life when I don't really use the phone. Do you have a lot of apps or any Bluetooth peripherals throughout the day?

I got the S7 the day it came out. Had it for 18 months. It was the last in a long line of Samsung phones for me. The camera was great. The insane amount of bloatware just made it feel like it was always trying to push a rope uphill. It got hot when it charged. I never felt like I could trust it to get me through the day. I always had to charge it before I went out to make sure it would and it didn't always. Their power saving mode was a joke. If I left it off the charger overnight it would suck down as much as 30% in 6 hours. That's after making sure all my apps were closed!

The G6, with essentially the same chipset, does none of that. I'm using all the same apps I always have and no issues. Doesn't get hot when it charges. If go out and it's in my pocket I know I can do some texts and take some pics and be fine even with 50%. If I leave it off the charger overnight, it drop 2-3%, 5% at most. There's no lag, none. There's a little bit of bloat but not much and you can uninstall most of it. Camera is great, wide angle is awesome.

Get the G6, it's a cut above the S7. I couldn't be happier since switching.

This is exactly what I want to hear (or read?). I really am leaning towards the G6, just concerned with LG phones' long-term reliability because the Note 4 never failed me. Thanks!

I see. Thanks for the help! 👌

No problem! I definitely understand your concern about bootlooping. You can't really prepare for that happening - sure, you can back up all of your important information, but that wouldn't stop the bootlooping from occurring. But LG's two-year warranty seems to be a good remedy for that. I think the G4 was the only device that really suffered from this - the G3 and G5, so far as I know from reviews and what I've read here, had rare bootloops.

I ended up grabbing a G6 and a Note 8. G6 from swappa and Note 8 on contract. Swapping between both daily. I'll either sell G6 or return Note 8 when I can make up my mind..... ah there's the rub. Lol. I love them both so far for different reasons.

Sometimes trying out both is the best solution to make up your mind! Good for you! :)
