5X is NOT Quick Charge 2.0 compatible, but has 'Fast Charge' technology - implications?

This is the clearest explanation I've read on this issue to date. Thanks for sharing.

5X is NOT Quick Charge 2.0 compatible, but has 'Fast Charge' technology - implications?

I agree. Whilst the explanation 2 posts above is feasible, it doesn't answer the question definitively. As mentioned previously, Quick Charge 2.0 varies both voltage and current. Does the 6P/5X also allow this, or does it just allow greater current @ a constant 5V?

What are you upgrading from and why?

Coming from Galaxy S4 on Verizon. Tired of always being the last one to get Android updates. Finally got 5.1.1 somewhat recently and the S4 feels like a new phone, so I'm still on the fence as to whether I really need to upgrade now or whether to wait. Also curious to try out Project Fi at some...

Poll: What storage capacity did you pre-order? 32/64/128 Gb?

i actually just tried to edit the poll to turn off the user ID tracking, but I dont think it lets me edit it. If I can figure it out, I'll add the color options

Poll: What storage capacity did you pre-order? 32/64/128 Gb?

Just curious what size everyone went with? Given the lack of SD-card, I'm finding this decision a bit tough. 32Gb would normally enough for me, but if I were to start using custom ROMs, the roms + nandroids would take up 5-10Gb. Thoughts?

5X is NOT Quick Charge 2.0 compatible, but has 'Fast Charge' technology - implications?

Yeah, good points, and good catch with the Aukey. The Anker alternative is this (has both QC and Power IQ, but only 1 port)...

5X is NOT Quick Charge 2.0 compatible, but has 'Fast Charge' technology - implications?

Yep, that should. Only issue with that one is that it doesnt have Power IQ technology for when non-QC devices are plugged in. So it might not charge those devices at their max rate. I think I'm leaning towards this one...

5X is NOT Quick Charge 2.0 compatible, but has 'Fast Charge' technology - implications?

Yes, the included charger will charge as fast as possible

5X is NOT Quick Charge 2.0 compatible, but has 'Fast Charge' technology - implications?

Ah, yes I'm with you. In speaking with some folks at Anker, they outlined that Qualcomm Quick Charge (aka Samsung Adaptive Charge/Turbo Charge/Fast Charge) allows both the charging voltage and amperage to be varied...this is how it achieves the faster charging. At low charge levels, a higher...

5X is NOT Quick Charge 2.0 compatible, but has 'Fast Charge' technology - implications?

Can you elaborate? FYI I found this article pretty useful in understanding this topic: http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/06/12/quick-rapid-turbo-and-fast-charging-explained-what-you-need-to-know-about-charging-your-smartphone/

5X is NOT Quick Charge 2.0 compatible, but has 'Fast Charge' technology - implications?

Thanks very much for this info. I didn't think about looking into currently available 'Fast Charge' devices. Looking into this, I came across this article which cleared up a lot for me: Quick, Rapid, Turbo, And Fast Charging Explained: What You Need To Know About Charging Your Smartphone All...

5X is NOT Quick Charge 2.0 compatible, but has 'Fast Charge' technology - implications?

That doesn't answer whether a standard 5V 3A charger will charge it at full speed, or whether the charger needs specific technology (either similar to or exactly like QC2.0) to charge at full speed (see my original post) There was more to my conversations with the reps than that one sentence.

5X is NOT Quick Charge 2.0 compatible, but has 'Fast Charge' technology - implications?

Not sure how you come to that conclusion. The departing words from the rep I was talking to this morning were "I'm sorry I wasn't able to answer your question...I really want to know the answer to this too now you've asked it". Like I said, they were guessing as to what would/wouldn't be...

5X is NOT Quick Charge 2.0 compatible, but has 'Fast Charge' technology - implications?

What you say may well be true - I'm just trying to get someone to answer this question definitively. The Google reps have given me the impression that because its not certified, QC2.0 chargers won't add any benefit. They've even made comments saying that so long as the charger specs are...
