I was able to use the USB-A to USB-C cable that came with my Nexus 6P to transfer some movies to my Pixel C no problem. But normally I just use ES File Explorer to transfer files via FTP. The movies were an average of about 2GB and a total of 8 movies.

I suppose that's what I'll have to do. But given the sporadic nature of my job, a constant schedule is a luxury I do not have. Hopefully Google implements this small, but useful, feature in a minor update. Thank you all for your help.

That's not quite what o mean. Here's an example: On 5.1, lets say I went to bed at 2200 and my alarm is set for 0600. I could allow my phone to be silent until 0600. When my alarm went off, then it would alert me of notifications as usual, with sound and all. On 6.0 with the same scenario, yes...
