Do Not Disturb Until Next Alarm

So a feature I used every night on my Nexus 6 with 5.1 was Priority Notifications until next alarm. Basically, if your alarm was within 12 hours, this would allow your phone to be in "silent" mode until the alarm went off. With the "Do Not Disturb" feature in 6.0 on my Nexus 6P, this option is gone. Or am I missing something?

Before I would just press the volume rocker on my 6 and select priority, and there would be a button to last until my next alarm. The 6P, and Marshmallow, do not appear to have the option.

Have any of you used this feature in 5.1? Or have you been able to find a suitable substitute for the feature in 6.0? Any help appreciated.

If you enable do not disturb from the drop down it automatically allows all alarms only by default.

That's not quite what o mean.

Here's an example: On 5.1, lets say I went to bed at 2200 and my alarm is set for 0600. I could allow my phone to be silent until 0600. When my alarm went off, then it would alert me of notifications as usual, with sound and all.
On 6.0 with the same scenario, yes my alarm goes off at 0600, but the phone remains in "silent" mode until I turn off Do Not Disturb manually instead of it doing so automatically aftsr my alarm.

Granted it's not a huge deal since there's a simple toggle in the drop down shortcuts, but having to relearn that since getting my 6P has caused me to miss a few notifications since I was so used to dismissing my alarm and the phone automatically being able to ring again.

If you go into Settings > Sound & notification > Do no disturb, you can setup automatic rules. Not sure if that's what you're looking for but it might help. I use the automatic rules to silence my phone at night and it works great. I have it set to silence my phone at 10:00 pm and turn notifications back on at 6:00 am, which is just after my alarms go off.

I suppose that's what I'll have to do. But given the sporadic nature of my job, a constant schedule is a luxury I do not have.

Hopefully Google implements this small, but useful, feature in a minor update.

Thank you all for your help.

I setup a standard night rule to go silent from 9pm to 6:45am everyday... this way if I want to get up early I just switch off Private when I get up during the week at 5am, which I can do in the notification/quick links.

yes, thats what you have to do. Do not disturb until next alarm has been removed from Android 6.0.
You probably could do this with some other app though

yea, the "until next alarm" part was a stop gap measure in 5.1 that was added because in 5.x there was no way to silent the phone of everything except alarms, which was actually mind numbing to think about. "until next alarm" was probably a quick 2 lines of code into the existing setup that could be put in until the entire thing was re-written for 6.0.

I get that it was a feature you used, and it is too bad they took it out. But proper silent, do not disturb, priority, and normal modes are worth losing that one thing to the vast majority of users.

I will respectfully disagree with the last sentence of your post. I believe the "DND until next alarm" feature in 5.1 was perfect and all other methods are hacks in an effort to simulate that simple setting. If, indeed, it was "a quick 2 lines of code", it could be restored in Marshmallow. I wiped my Nexus 5 after the Marshmallow "upgrade" and brought it back to Lollipop because of this "DND until next alarm" feature. I believe most people were using their phones in this manner (assuming they relied on a morning "wake-up" alarm). To be forced to remember to turn off DND right after one wakes up is, frankly, an inconsiderate move on Google's part.

Now, I do not dispute that some people would like "DND for # hours" or even "DND until ##:## time" and, in fact, the latter could be used in connection with Marshmallow's DND mode. Note the former setting of "DND for # hours" is pretty worthless because it assumes whole hours for anything more than 60 minutes (so your phone either rings before your morning alarm or it's left on DND after your morning alarm and you can miss calls and event reminders).

Just my 2 cents. :D

That's good news for me too. I used that function a lot as I work shifts and have a very irregular sleeping pattern. Simple enough to turn dnd off of course IF you remember.

It's back in the 6.0.1 update, so you just need to wait for that.
