Welcome to Android Central.
This happened to my wifes device last year and it totally burnt out the board. I would bring it into your carrier and have them look at it . Or if you have insurance you may be able to get a replacement device.
Welcome to Android Central. we would love to help you but in order to do so we need to know what carrier and model Samsung device you have as there are many different types and they are not all the same.
Welcome to Android Central, the method of rooting your device depends on the Carrier you have. Please share that along with the build number on your device which can be found in settings>about phone>build number.
Mark welcome to Android Central. To me the most reliable method of transferring contacts is by making a vcard. Since I don't have an HTC one I cant be specific on how to do it on that device but on a Samsung device you would open contacts>select menu button>select import/export>select export to...
Welcome to android central, unfortunately I can not help you with this device but perhaps someone else who has it can. You could however go into the play store and find sound control apps or widgets that will allow you to manage sounds that way.
Yeah I don't think you can open an .exe file or rpm (resource power management) correct?
Do the files say they are Android compatible. I think you will need the documents in pdf or doc format

To freeze I use titanium backup. But I think there are other app freezing apps in the market.
I use root explorer as a file manager.
I think in es explorer you need to go into settings and find the root settings and set it as read/write

Are you sure it can be used for samsung galaxy devices? I have never heard of it. Where did you read that it can be used? Also perhaps you need to unlock the bootloader to be able to change things.

I have the Note 2 so I don't worry about battery life so I never paid attention if it helps or not.
But you are welcome I use it every night otherwise my wife would stab me in the face from the brightness of my phone not letting her sleep.
