That's really the reason I haven't done it. I've read posts where a person spends hours reading/rooting/moving files/etc and then has to undo/redo things in order to upgrade. I don't want to spend hours futzing with my phone only to have to undo/redo some of it when the next best thing rolls...

At least one of the things they do that increases brand loyalty is to charge more $. People have to justify that extra expense somehow.

What is the 'correct' fix? There are a bunch of 'this worked for me' and 'I fixed it' posts but I don't know which is the real deal.

You don't need to turn off GPS, it's only active when you open an app that needs it (like Maps or Nav). I leave mine enabled all the time, it's only active when you see that GPS symbol in the notifications bar.
